Popular Post ~Slideways~
Well no turning back now, I've started cutting the subframe of which I'll make up new sections once I've finalised the position etc. I thought I might be able to keep part of the front section but it all had to go, to stop it from moving I welded on a bit of angle steel. This dropped it down nicely but the angle steel needed a notch cut out for the oil level sight, it still needed to move over to the passenger side too. So more cutting. Looking much better, the oil filter sandwich plate is resting on the subframe now so the engine isn't level yet but far better and is about 10cm further to the passenger side. This is as far back as it can go without cutting the firewall, but it is within 20mm of the closest protrusion from the steering rack. I also bit the bullet and cut the tab off the stator cover which is the oilfeed because it was almost impossible to get it to fit around the steering rack. This is a magnesium casting, so I cut it slowly and manually. Didn't burn down the house. Plan is to block the original feed then tap into the casing and have an oilfeed that way. No reason it shouldn't work, but if it doesn't I can just get another casing. They seem to be easy to get, I guess because they get damaged when riders drop their bikes. It's sitting much better in the engine bay now, I will try get it a bit further over because I'm worried about draiveshaft UJ angles. But for now it fits behind the grill! The front clutch cover was always going to stick out, I'm not sure what I'll do here but at least clutch changes will be easy access....
~Slideways~
Small update, needed to take the dash out for the rust repairs. It's nice working with something with such basic electronics compared to the 200SX body loom swap/1JZ working with s13 stuff. This relay is so cool looking: Donor panel:
~Slideways~
Ausy steel replacing rusty bits, just tacked in now but all reference measurements look good! The inner wheel arch there is just covered in glue it'll tidy up nicely later. This sill is not so happy, but I'll keep chipping away at it. This bonnet support frame is quite rusty. The outer skin is pretty good, so I am thinking I could tidy up the skin then make a fibreglass mould and play around with making two bonnets. One with a hole for the trumpets and one without. The vents would be pretty hard to make but I'll see. I thought this was funny, this is the complete fuse box for the whole car:
~Slideways~
First patch welded in, I was a bit worried about the 50 year old steel but it didn't seem any different than new steel. Came out ok Also for motivation I put the bike cluster roughly where I want it on the dash:
Popular Post ~Slideways~
More chemotherapy for the little Honda. Not the tidiest welds, I was very conscious of not putting too much heat into it. But its solid and straight and rust free.
Popular Post ~Slideways~
Thanks @tortron and @Sambo for getting this diff for me, legends. I picked it up from @Adoom ‘s place on Sunday and parked it behind the Honda. Will get back into this once I’ve hopefully got the 200sx certified. Either I’ll need to shorten it and/or use some wide Mini miglia flares with fwd offset wheels. But the 2.9 diff was the major and it’s a good size diff that’ll actually fit under there.

Popular Post ~Slideways~
Time is an illusion. Anyway, the zx12r engine came with an aftermarket sandwich plate for a remote oil cooler. Which I returned to the seller. I do have the factory water cooling sandwich plate but not the centre bolt to mount it. So I was left with nothing in the block to thread a filter onto. I found that the ZX10 has a normal threaded tube, so bought one of those from a motorbike parts place. But the filter sealing surface on the block is much bigger than the Zx10 was. So I have 3 possible filters to try one was JUST too small to seal, then another...which was JUST too big to seal, the 3rd the internet told me would fit. It was no where near. The thread is a common M20 1.5 so surely there is something that will fit. I want to get the engine running, which would be good motivation or at least to make some vroom noises. Also, since that last post. From the before times, I have put in big pallet racking along the back wall and shuffled the N360 around on trolleys. Which has been preventing me from working on the 200sx (well along with a lot of other priorities). I decided to make a car trolley thing out of steel I salvaged from a big work clear out and some stuff I had from other projects. This is the first version: I put some 18mm ply on it, but ended up adding/welding on some thick angle iron across the front and rear once the body was up there. Not sure what it weighs, but factory its something like 550kg. So minus the engine, gbox, most interior, doors, bonnet, rear axle and windscreen it's probably something around half that? Getting it up there was fun: Chain block: Transmission jack: And up: It's on braked casters so can roll it over the mr2. Quite good having the floor area back, as well as having a better look at it. I also have some Honda City disk brakes and knuckles to see if they will fit. Looks like a very similar clamp that goes onto the bottom of the strut, but may need a notch ground into it.
~Slideways~
The fuel tank has a small leak and has started to reek real bad, the tank is rusty and in the way of rwd conversion anyway so drained it and took it off. Holy the shit the stench, was 10L+ left in it and was probably last filled around 2014. Not sure why I didn't drain it in the last 5 years?
Popular Post ~Slideways~
With the tank out, you can see a decent but small tunnel for a prop shaft, may need to widen it depending where the rear axle sits. It's good having it up and out of the way on the big trolley thing, give me a better look at the work it needs and some ideas etc. bad photo:
