RUNAMUCK
I though about this problem again today. I propose we drill an M8 tapping drill through the Centre of the bung. The screw in a cap screw and throw a bit of fizz onto where the head meets the bung. Then hit the capscrew with the duggadugga gun. Profit. JustHarry
Reverse threaded bolt threaded in? Like you say m8. Should hold up I think we've got a couple reverse thread taps at work

It's genius, the flow of oil out of the sump will flush the swarf out. I would just use that bung as the new smaller sump plug
RUNAMUCK
Once the bung is out I would have poked a telescopic magnet in the hole and removed the tiny bit of swarf. And a left hand thread capscrew would be a bit of a unicorn.

JustHarry
Took manifold to work today and extracted broken bolt. Drilled most of the way. Then dremmeled the remainder of the bolt out Thread was pretty chewey so a 6mm thread insert later and it's good to go
