That they have the ability for mechanical pumpage has them clear of M57's for me though. Yes! Why do you think I bought a running (poorly) musso for less than half the cost of a 606. I've got three om662, manual gearbag and conversion flywheel and still less than 606 long block And the single cam 662/602 have narrower heads 1 1 Quote
dmulally Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Been on a magical mystery tour of 1.9mtdi and om662. Apparently the most rare engines in God's country. 😩 Time to wade through 1kz and td27 mechanical pumps and sump mods. Quote

Find one being ripped out of a safari for an RB swap and they are already factory turbo with boost compensated mech pump. They like to cook heads if not looked after properly but what 90s diesel doesnt. @Beaver is your man for RD knowledge 2 1 Quote
dmulally Posted July 5 Posted July 5 The s-type is a bit of a cunt because not only does the sump have to clear the cross member but also the steering. There are ways around that of course but more work. 2 Quote
Beaver Posted July 5 Posted July 5 1 hour ago, dmulally said: They seem to be available. Are they a decent engine and can one be turbo'd with a mechanical pump reasonably easily? As mentioned by Jamie, safari sprint came with factory rd28t. Ive got 2 of them (one went bang, other is in my gloria). Happy to take measurements etc if you want. They have a average/bad rep cause everyone rips them out of the safaris to put td42 or whatever in, or rips then out of laurels to put an rb in. I did the swap in my wagon only cause it's a factory rd28 (non turbo) so was an easy job. Probably wouldn't chase one down... 1 Quote

dmulally Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Does anybody have any strong opinions on the td27t either way? Seems to be pretty cheap and in greater numbers than all but the 1kz. Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Yuck. Underpowered unless rolling coal etc etc. Also stupid heavy for their size imo. 2 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Barra motors are also quite tall, something to consider. As you do like punishment, how about a 4jg2 rodeo motor and speed. Available as turbo, parts everywhere, no toyota tax Quote

Online pics of old diesels are usually on some pallet in the Phillipines with some dirty jandal clad foot holding it steady. Sounds more erotic than it is. Alas you can rarely see the sump. 3 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Haven't had a look at one in years. Memory says rear sump as i had to drop the trans to pull the motor straight up to clear the front diff on my old bighorn. 1 Quote
dmulally Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Anybody have any opinions on the QD32? Apparently a td27 mech pump works on it and seems to have some decent potential for tuning. Quote

Pretty prehistoric engine. Would a td27 pump be big enough for it? For ease of parts a 1kz is probably your better option. And a 2wd gearbox is easy to come by for them 1 Quote

Ironically I have got the Jag humming quite well so the starter carb finally fixed itself although it is running off a boat tote tank. I should prob start a thread on it. 6 Quote

I can have a look at mine tomorrow. Not sure if they have different sumps in different vehicles though 1 Quote
