Best spray on underseal and prep options?

~Slideways~

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about spraying underseal to the floor and chassis of my Nissan Safari for rust protection and bonus sound deadening.

I thought about it when Supercheap had a sale, I was getting some other stuff and saw a few options they had. Didn't buy because it's probably not great.

So a couple of things I'd like suggestions on:

- A good spray on rust kill, there is surface rust in places. So want to kill this first.

- Would i need a coat of something else after the rust kill/prep.

- What is the best option for the actually underseal?

Depends how much you want to spend. Best option is to sandblast and spray with Resene Durepox. It’s a marine grade epoxy which dries as hard as fuck.

Just looked it up, I'm not sure about 2K. I'd love to be able to spray it at home. But I'd be doing it at home with tiny humans around.

you can brush it on, much less volatiles that way. just wear overalls, gloves, get a breeze going, face mask with some carbon filters on it and it will be fine

There's also some other products similar to the Wurth canisters (which are indeed awesome). Total Bodyshop in the Hutt stock one that I've used, but I can't remember its name. You'll need a special gun for either though... which I can lend you if you need, but they're only $46 new

Reviving this thread because why make a new one?

I'm soon to be in a similar boat, and my car will be blasted and primed with durepox as a starting point.  Because I'm marginally OCD I'm still really keen on getting a nice rubberised coating under there in addition.  But there are so many options.

  • Bitumen vs water based.  Is there any meaningful difference there?
  • Different brands - I'm sure some are rubbish.  Any stories of success (or failure) with particular products?
  • Rattle can vs those 1L cartridges vs a pot gun.  For those of us trying to do this just on jack stands, what's the best approach?

I've been looking at the same stuff, real world question, how many tins would be needed for an average underbody respray?
