Jusepy82
Hey , I'm currently working on my 77 ford escort pannel van. It has a 1600 block . the sump is sitting on the steering rack. What is the difference between a 1300 sump and 1600. Also whats difference between 13 and 16 engine mounts. Thanks .
66gt
No difference between Escort 1300 and 1600 sumps. Sounds like the engine maybe out of another Ford with a different sump or the engine mounts are fucked. Engine mounts are the same as well the 1600 block as a higher deck height
Jusepy82
Engine mounts are all good , had a decent look at them tonight. Nah its definitely a 1600 ford escort engine , I think the sump may be a Cortina sump or something. I've been doing some research since I put this post up and apparently their is a difference with sumps and mounts but need some solid evidence .lol
cletus
From memory an escort 1600 sump has slightly more clearance near the pan rails for the rod bolts? You can panelbeat a 1300 one to work. At least I think that was how it works. It was 1996 when I last messed around with one. Also if you use a 1300 oil pickup in a 1600 the rod bolts hit it. I know that one because I had to pull the motor out of my escort 3 times to find the knocking noise
peteretep
what are the block numbers? I have a 681f block instead of 711m and I had to get different engine mounts made as the block is a bit thinner at that point
Jusepy82
Its a 681f block , I'm pretty sure the sump cleared and wasn't knocking lol. Apparently cortina engine mounts can be fitted. I'm about to go on palmside and see what there mounts look like for comparison. Thanks for all the replies , I shall be back for more help thru out my build. peteretep
Ah yeah you will need special/different mounts then. Slightly longer and slightly angles to match the original face. If you had some thick steel lying around, like 10mm, you may be able to make up a spacer too
Jusepy82
I've tried the shimming out of the mounts with spacers so will have to look into new mounts or Corrina ones. Its going to be awhile till I can put the motor back in , but I'm looking into it now so I don't have to fluff around with it when I'm ready. peteretep
from memory, one of my mounts was extended 10mm and angled about 12 degrees
Jusepy82
Did you extend it yourself and angle them yourself..

Jusepy82
Hey me again , has anyone had to deal with cracks in the head between the water jackets. I shall take photos if required.
igor
@yoeddynz may have some valuable knowledge of this.
tortron
Typically you drill the crack out and thread some bolts in there. Then machine flat. Not overly expensive are your local engine shop
Jusepy82
I plan to take the head to machine shop , has anyone done their own porting and polishing and had good results ?
66gt
Porting and polishing is a dark art. You really need a flow bench to do it well. Plenty of old school engine builders can do it on old Classic Ford stuff.

tortron
Port and polish will be well layed out for your engine, I assume there's a vizard book or something that you can copy from. Get a couple of carbide burrs and little flap disk's. Start by just cleaning the castings up and matching them to your gasket size
