d.p.n.s
removed the battery tray and huge washer bottle bracket. found the perfect radiator in my shit i have in garage .was oe of the ones i had for my mk2 its a 70mm thick rx2 alloy rad and a bloody good size. so i measures it all up and cut the slam panel to fit it. should be a good fit. started making the bottom and got it welded it...made it to incorporate the bottom bracket for the rad to sit in. thats it so far.

d.p.n.s
well that's a fucking relief .... the bonnet shuts...without having to make a bubble in it or try and track down a aussie one. and i have lots of room around the motor and heaps of room for a 14"fan now that the davies craig waterpump plate is on and the radiator is in the slam panel.

Popular Post d.p.n.s
got a few more things done. mounted oilcooler got the electric water pump placed and plumbed then i made a bracket to mount the alternator around that. and then to cram it all together on one side made a panel to cap the gap at the top of the radiator off and all so help keep the radiator in place and last but not least ...got the ITB manifold back from surfab i had the flange cut off and flipped and welded back on and on a 5degree incline... had them flipped so that all the holes in the ITBs are on the underside as i would like to make a idle air control valve for it and all vacuum lines as well cheers

Only took 5 weeks on back order from summit racing.....2 days to get to NZ and 16 days to get to me from Auckland.... good old NZ ay. Now I can work out how much more to remove from the engine bay....pull motor and box out for clean up and build..and start welding all the holes in the engine bay up before mak8ng a rotisserie to do the underside.

Popular Post d.p.n.s
small update. all the measuring around the enginebay for the motor is all done now so i pulled the motor out for the last time...(next time it goes in it will be once the shell is all done and painted..like 20 odd years time lol) so i started playing with the motor. dip stick needed to be moved to the back as the cortina sump is a rear sump.(luckily the ford block has the hole already there ) just had to tap the bung out and swap them over . next up was the pick up had to be changed for the rear sump.(luckily i got the pick up with the sump.) but the 1st problem was the pick up didn't match the oil pump so it needed some modifying next problem was the pick up mount..the factory cortina 250xflow has 2 main cap studs that have longer heads on the studs and are drilled and tapped for 2 bolts.(but i dont have nor can i find any) so i pulled the cap off and folded up a tab to be cut and welded to the pick up.(could have made it 2 bits that bolt together but wanted to eliminate anything being able to come lose ) then i started to give it all a good clean up and thats it so far ...
d.p.n.s
did a wee bit today . finally got the breather tank to fit. sorted out the rear of the engine bay (again) so the throttle body linkage does hit anything will have room for the Idle air controller and the trumpets will fit. and still cleaning bits on the motor.

Popular Post d.p.n.s
started playing with the factory bmw idle air control system today .. so i flipped the ITBs upside down to make life easier to work on. (normally in the bmw they would have run this way but i wanted them all on the underside to keep it cleaner) and grabbed the factory bar for the idle air control and cut it up as the ITBs have been made to match the xflow inlets. i also removed a few things not needed and just keep the factory inlet.....and i swapped the ends over to keep it cleaner. i had some stainless that was the same size diameter as the inside of the rail so perfect.....cut them up and slid them into the tubes as far as i can for strength flipped it back to where it should be and its perfect ...just need to weld them up.
Popular Post d.p.n.s
so its about 1 hose 150mm long away from having a bmw idle air control system ready to go on a old school 250 xflow. the bmw IACV (same on e use with these ITBs on the m3) using my trusty grinder and drill i made some brackets (about as engineering as i get ) found a place to mount it all and cover up the old fuel pump hole at the same time. welded the IACV pipe and painted it black and all in place just got to get a hose

d.p.n.s
huge thats to Pete (valiant) for a 25 spline LSD carrier and the tools he made to check the breakaway. and it ends up being 100 ft = 135.5nm so thats pretty good led me to think it may have been shimmed . Pete also said it could be dirt /rust. i decided to pull it apart and soak it for a few days but it turns out its pretty blood clean so i cleaned it up anyway and it turns out it is shimmed. i rebuilt it with some LSD oil i couldn't find the torque specs for the diff ( @RUNAMUCK has some)but they didnt feel to tight taking them apart so i just torqued them down to 30ftlbs. (will do for now as its only getting wrapped in cling film and put on the shelf till the complete diff is ready to be put together.) i did recheck the breakaway torque again and it was spot on 100 ft again so that's awesome
