Archetype
I’m lying on my bed in silence at the backbackers, but there’s a constant ringdingding noise playing in my head after 2 stroke riding all day.

Popular Post Mop Head
So, the China muffler fell off the exhaust that @Geophy welded perfectly. China decided welding isn’t really important after nutts to butts with@GuyWithAviators over the road from Hicks bay to Te Araroa. 2 up’s with @64vauxhall today was amazing. The top gear style ‘fail bike’ was a Yamaha Vity 125 4 stroke twist and go. Because the gyro soft seized about 4 separate times within 50km, he’d been riding it since yesterday. When we discovered the muffler situation it was about 9pm, the lifan ran like shit with the straight pipe and @Raizer was only 200km away. We bottomed out the Vity to the East cape light house, Tolaga Bay which is where @Raizer had ridden to meet us and escort us into the big city. Dinner had the local upside down b enthusiast, bunches of kids, their parents, the Chinese shop owner and basically 94% of Gisborne audibly frothing at the bung hole for small bikes. I had @GuyWithAviators nutts my butts on the mighty Let’s II and the Chaly again as we sparkled down the beach side. We’ve passed countless cops and about 3 or 4 police stations. At worst we get a wave, at best we get videoed by the policeman’s wife out he window. Overall this is amazing, tomorrow is the hardest day yet. Over 200kms and an awesome natural rock water slide along the way, heaps of gravel too. I have work at 6am Monday. Let’s see if I make it.

Raizer
After a fuel/pie stop just out of Gisborne we headed out to Rere falls, @MopedNZ had a bit of an incident along the way, but I'll let him tell the tale of that later on. Then headed 2k up the road to Rere rockslide where an old abandoned air mattress was recovered... Majestic! Sadly I had to leave the ride at this point and head home, was super tempted to keep riding with the guys but coming back alone sucked enough from where we ended up lol Can't wait for Mount ride!

64valiant
Day one went a little like this for me. Scooter didn't want to start. So had everyone working on it. Got it going and off I went. Had to stop and Take this photo I was so happy to be on my scoot. Next stop was the petrol station. And followed up with me and the scoot braking down. So the next few hours went passed with me in the back of a jimny. Back to Johns place grab the spare bike and play catch up began. Once caught up I was off on the vity. What a fucken tropper that was. Got to accommodation and spent to much on a small box of Woodstock (18 pack 43 dollar's 7 percent cans) We then made our way to find dinner. Local rsa signed us all in had a beer and ate some food. Got rather warm so I stepped out side, ended up having a yarn with a local with his daughters on there horses. From there I doubled Andrew home on the vity and searched for his wallet for a bit. The local Lady's from the rsa took a photo of us two up nuts to buts. Such a lol. From there proceeded to get drank and sleep on the deck in my sleeping bag.

Popular Post johnnyfive
This morning was a bit tough thats for sure. Luckily I was able to hit snooze a few times also, will try deal with it all later (or not). Big thanks to everyone for coming along and making this as mint as it was. I'm genuinely impressed and wrapped at the minimal incidents over such a mammoth mission, 1 puncture, 0 catastrophic bike failures, and out of the weekends spills (I'm sure we all had some close moments), just Mr Collarbone and the standard ride fatigue worth mentioning? Good reception from the locals, mostly all would throw back an enthusiastic wave and the occasional happy gang sign. I'll try get my recollection of the weekends travels down in some understandable form. I took basically nil photos or vids but will share what I've got. Incoming wall of text Friday saw 14 bikes get away some time between 9 and 10. Honda Gyro, 4 Honda CTs, Honda ST90, Honda Chaly, Honda NBC, Honda Ruckus (see a trend here?), Mudbug, 2 GNs (125&250), PGO 50, Suzuki QT50 The first stretch from here to Opotiki on busier roads with frequent trucks was a little stressful. From there on, traffic was pretty minimal aside maybe ~10-20km either side of Gisborne. On the coast past Opotiki, at maybe the ~50km mark, it started to look like @64vauxhall's Gyro might have some difficulty, mostly being reduced to a dangerous speed on some of the climbs from bay to bay. The call was made while there was still some phone reception and home wasn't far away that the Gyro would go on the trailer to Gisborne, and Greg would return to the cars to collect a twist'n'goes(hard) Yamaha 125 that AndrewS had left for this purpose in his van. The remaining 13 of us carried on to have a late lunch at Te Kaha, and onward Hicks Bay for the night with Greg and the car catching up to us during this time. Riverbed hoons, scenic vistas, nice. Bach in Hicks Bay and beach hoons and wharf was a delight. Dinner at Te Araroa also great. The road to this point was pretty good. @MopedNZ's muffler fell off his Chaly so it rode on the trailer for Saturday with him doubling up with Greg on the big dog. IMG_20171125_082532 by John Bell, on Flickr Saturday saw us head through Te Araroa to the East Cape lighthouse via about 10km of very potholed gravel, some of us made the ~800 or something stairs to the top. Also horses. IMG_20171125_102953 by John Bell, on Flickr IMG_20171125_102957 by John Bell, on Flickr Back to Te Araroa it was then inland to Ruatoria for pretty mean lunch and the first decent cell reception in 24hrs. The road between TeAraroa and maybe Tolaga bay was a bit shit, potholes etc. Then onwards to Tokomaru Bay for a quick stop and another wharf, and further on to Tolaga Bay for another even better wharf and a wild @Raizer appearing. Sweet fuck all traffic to this point again which was lovely. From there we were escorted/raced into Gisborne. Trailer, and a sad Gyro and Chaly left with Gisbornes #1 gyro fiend. We all found our accommodation and met again for a succulent Chinese meal at the charming China Palace. The Chaly's exhaust was repaired by raizer that evening. Also, badass Gyro. IMG_20171125_222400 by John Bell, on Flickr We met on Sunday morning, pies and petrol and headed out of town 50km toward the Rere Falls, at some point MopedNZ did a mischef/flip and spent the rest of the day riding in the car. Rere falls/rockslide was dope. IMG_20171126_095711 by John Bell, on Flickr From there it was about another 50km to Matawai on some pretty ruthless fresh coarse gravel that claimed @Archetype's mudbugs tyre air, so he was also forced to ride in the now very cramped vehicle for the remainder of the day. A drawn out lunch at Matawai saw us leaving a bit later than ideal. From there we made it up and down the infamous Motu road, which only claimed a bit of @Shakotom's pride. The Motu road was incredible to ride, must have been 50-60km of very fun but in places roughly corrugated/rocks. Also it rained heavily and briefly so some of us got wet. Back to the coast near Opotiki again, it was getting late in the day by this point, so it was balls out back home where everyone loaded up and went their separate ways pretty quickly. I didn't keep an exact track of km traveled but everyone was well over 600km by the end of our 3 days. What a fucking mission Coast trip small by John Bell, on Flickr xoxo
Archetype
My summary to the wife when I got home last night went something like this: "It was awesome! One guy fell off and broke his collarbone, another dude went off a large bank and didn't die because he landed on some trees, and I got a flat tyre on the last day. Oh, and I had a little fall at about 2km/h when I derped. Can't wait for the next one." Her response: "Please don't tell me that." 4
