I think the general concensus among enthusiasts is that they are safe to 8000. After that the oil pump will struggle to keep up flow (for long periods in race cars that is) and anyway- power falls away beyond 7k so not much point. The stock hydrulic followers will also pump up. The last G4 engines had solid lifters to cope ( although I already know that you have been nerdy enough to learn all this just like the rest of us K seres geeks :-)

Certainly the rod ratio and block/crank stiffness would allow far higher revs if cam profiles allowed. I remember reading about a fella who started building a k8 that was going to have a 12k redline... but he gave up due to cam costs etc. Most who race them anywhere after 8k rpm run external pumps.

There is also this, one of my most watched vids. Fuck me this car sounds so angry and I do love it so...

Man I almost missed the engine jamming out too hard to those sick beats! I wonder if Kelford would be able to regrind the standard cams to an even more aggressive profile? I'm glad I bought the DE engine first now so I can swap in the reportedly superior valve train components.

Valve retainers / collets / whatever holds the spring onto the valve  it was the ze ones have been known to fall in half and wreck engines from there - probetalk forums seems to have died completely and so much knowledge on kl is lost in cyberspace

looks good mate so glad you stuck with the ITBs.

as for the disc and calipers I can't comment on the mondao ones.

but I do have a set of mondao steel wheels but I'm also away for 5 days.

but I did a lot of searching for rear discs and calipers for escort/cortina and came up with 2000 for focus discs nd calipers.. got discs .calipers handbrake and handbteak cables from.pick apart..

I also managed  to fit a escort steel wheel on with no spacers  ...

And that wouldn't solve the hub centric problem either. I figure if I need to machine up a ring to match the hub spigot to the wheel, I might as well make a whole spacer up for that extra hella mad sick stance as well.

agreed....do that

Chevettes and gemini's, piazza's have a rather simple way which I think would be easier again for you to adapt/make your own.

The cable is one piece from one caliper to the other. It passes through the V block with a hole through the centre - this enables the cable to pull evenly, which it adjusted via the long threaded rod - just adjust the jam nuts either end to suit

Hopefully the photo makes sense.

That is an interesting idea. My thought though is that it is essentially the same as what I've already got, though a little more simplistic. I've done a bit more work on the cable today and I'm far more confident in the slotted bolt now I've seen it under tension; there's no way the cable would slip out. I think the added complication of the system I have is worth it, over making a whole system like you suggest, for the fact that it uses almost entirely factory consumable parts and can therefore be easily replaced when the time comes. The sheathed cables out of the Mondeo make it easier to route the cables round curved paths too without them binding up. Something for me to think about though so thanks. :)

Well done thus far, I really enjoyed reading your thread.  Hopefully, you can get a place with a garage soon!

Thanks very much mate, I appreciate your support. Just for future reference, we don't post on each other's build threads here to help keep down the clutter and make each thread easier to follow. By all means, head over to my discussion thread and have a yarn though. There's a link in my signature. :thumbleft:

Great work there. I've been waiting for an update. Man you'll be itching to get back to it now you've done by far the most critical part of the conversion.

The flywheel looks good. Is that a fidenza? How much did that cost?

If I do decide to fit either the klze or the kfde I have laying about here into my wagon (rather then the duratec) I'll have probably use the k8 flywheel I have. It's not as light as the cromoly one that was in the first viva but at least lighter then the standard 2.5 items.

I think it is a Fidanza, either that or a well-made copy. It had the Fidanza part number on the box and looks like all the pictures online so I'm fairly convinced. It also has an SFI certification sticker on it and they're of course impossible to fake. The only reason I think it might be a copy is it only cost me $250, admittedly second hand but it is in essentially brand new condition as far as I can tell. I'm absolutely frothing to get back at it properly, already looking at places with garages to rent while we've still got four months left on our current contract. Can not wait.
