kicker
Local paint shop told me the same, Bunnings are supposed to be selling it now
yoeddynz
Ha- I discovered this too when I went to pick up some por15 from my local. They have now been selling this stuff called 'miracle paint' which is basically the exact same stuff as Por15.. http://www.hirschauto.com/Miracle-Paint-Rust-Killer/products/3/ Hey are those seats from a Honda prelude? I used some like them in my first Chevette way way back in 1994. Nice and comfy.
Hurmeez
Yeah they are Prelude seats. I'm not a massive fan of the weird headrest setup they have but I have a plan for that and they were free, so I can't complain.
Nominal
I think you should be able to redrill the 4-stud axles to the new pattern between the existing studs. Slotting the wheels is probably a bad idea, even though some mags use that approach (with a bit fat washer in a recess).
Hurmeez
I suppose that would be an option but I think I may run into an issue with the bearing retainer access holes. I probably could fit another stud in there in between the two but I'd be worried about how close it would be and the strength (or lack thereof) it might have. I don't think you are allowed to weld up the holes because it screws the heat treatment right?
Rhubarb77
Definitely jump on that R31 axle that's a great price. Just be sure it's from a Skyline and not a Pintara. The Skyline is 28 spline and 3.89 gears and Pintara only 25 spline with 4.11 gears. The Pintara gears can be used in the Skyline diff though. The way my diff was done was to use the shorter half shaft as is and use it on the other side then shorten and respline the longer shaft. Then shorten housing and weld on the escort brackets etc. The hubs and rotors were redrilled to 4x108 PCD
Hurmeez
How much did you actually shorten it by? I'm trying to find the R31s width online but I'm finding anywhere from 1410mm to 1470mm so I'm not completely sure how much it will need cutting. Rhubarb77
We made it same width as the escort diff 1350mm
Hurmeez
A quick update not big enough for the main thread. I'm working 13 ten hour days in a row with one day off for a couple of months so I'm not getting heaps of work done, however, I am getting closer to getting my adapter plate finalised after not worrying about it for a good while. However, I'm hitting a problem. I can't get countersunk bolts to fit the V6 bellhousing from any of my local suppliers and I'm struggling to find any online. @yoeddynz , @Transom, you guys don't happen to remember either where you got yours from, or the size and pitch of the bolts so I can hopefully better my google-fu? You'd be even more legendary if you could. Also exciting developments on the diff situation but I'll leave that for a full update later on .
Transom
Got mine ordered in by local engineers - they were not cheap cos odd pitch - will check soon exactly what they were - I coulda saved money on the 2 bottom bolts by reusing the stock v6 bolts installed thru into adaptor from the engine side
Hurmeez
Yeah that was my plan to use the bolts from the back too. Thanks for checking.
yoeddynz
I got mine from blacks fastners. I don't seem to remember them being very expensive.
Transom
M12x1.25 and I used 50mm long cut to fit for some from top clockwiseish top 3 bolts 4 th bolt at 3oclock could be any thread is it goes right thru the factory dowel and has nyloc the lowest 2 can be factory bolts thru from the front into adapter plate no countersink needed the bolt at ten o clockish is the one that lined up for me so factory bolt but seems to be odd one out at m12x1.25 here and a long one Edited May 5, 2018 by Transom i am a retard....
Hurmeez
Brilliant! That's exactly what I needed. As I said, absolute legends

As I said, absolute legends No worries hey it appears there may be another engine mount hole at about 8 o clock in that pic - I think I missed missed that one out as it clashes with the rx7 starter mount bolt right beside it - no room for countersunk head
Hurmeez
Yeah I was having issues with that one too but I came up with what I think is a very cunning work-around. All will be revealed in good time

yoeddynz
I'd have thought the K8 one would have been the lightest? However I have a K8 one and from memory it does indeed look a little less cut away then that one of yours. I must check (for future V6 project plans you see...)
