tortron
The steering box in my L200 has a dribble out the bottom so il need to repair or replace. The cert plate states 'Mitsi Galant Box' under steering. It must be pre 91 because thats when it was certed. when i google it it seems to only come back with rack and pinion are there mitsubishi part/casting numbers i can go off on the unit to confirm its identity? also
Ranter
Don't know. As far as I know the Starion/Sigma/L200/Pajero are the same. If there are numbers I can compare with mine, have everything but a Sigma here at moment. Seem to recall trying to replace that seal without removing the box but dramas unfolded of which I can't recall resulting in a swap.
tortron
Yea this ones going to be a pain because there is gnats pube clearance between it and the exhaust manifold. Possibly they just banged something in to clear it and wrote down whatever, it's registered as a Galant ute Will tackle it this weekend and post some pics
tortron
ah, my first message cut off. I was going to say also- if anyone has the measurements of the seals i can just go from that to confirm, id say if it is a mitsubishi one from that time then most of them were the same right
Ranter
I'm thinking now that the seal goes in from the inside requiring full strip down of box to get at it which will be why I swapped boxes, no time for that.
bigfoot
Likely to be sigma. Early galants didn't have power steering afaik. I have a sigma power steering box at my place if you want to come have a look on saturday
tortron
@bigfoot yah, just climbed under the truck and it looks similar to the sigma/early pajero ones i see online. Would be great to have a look to confirm
bigfoot
I will also check at work(kempys) if we have any early pajero boxes. We have heaps of old stock at work
tortron
that would be ace
fuel
Bare in mind the Japanese import RWD Sigmas were badged as Galant. My '81 coupe was a Galant GT with no power steering but if it were a Galant GSR (like Pooman's) it would have power steering like my Eterna GSR (which itself is just a tarted up Galant).
Scrubb
My Lancer has power steering. Is there anything I can try to check on mine to help?
Poo
If its any consolation my power steering box dribbles a bit as well.

Ranter
None of my numbers match that (82 Pajero, 91 Pajero, Starion) but outwardly they're all exactly the same. The L200 which is manual steer has it's box up the front, must be a 4x4 thing.
tortron
There is possibly 4x4 written on it in that white but it's a bit of a guess. So your other boxes look like the same?
Poo
That does look like the unit in my Sigma/Galant/Eterna GSR. Ive got a spare that doesnt dribble in my parts stash. I plan on using it to swap with my dribbly one.
fuel
You could always rebuild it if you're feeling game. It's also the same unit on the Starion.
ajg193
Do the rough thing and degrease it and then pour a little bit of seal sweller into the fluid. /ling
