i think you might be smoking crack. all the roof on my house/shed it steel. the neighbours house is concrete tile and there is a ridge cap the size of a mountain range between the two which you can see in the photo up there.

 

but thats not important right now.

what is important is that the guys are polishing and varnishing the timber floor this week. it'll be done by Friday. it seems very hard to take a picture of it but ill try again tomorrow.

After they lay down the final coat you'll notice that there is a curly pubic hair or something equally dodgy permanently embedded in the urethane.

So, are you going for super high gloss or a satin / matt finish? The satin finish on my floor initially went on shiny then they somehow satinified it afterward. Still shows wet footprints - need rugs at entry to dry shoes.

just how flat does the floor need to be before urethaning it? im planning on ripping up the carpet in the dinning room and extending the polished wood from the kitchen right through.

Depends on the flooring/wood type. And if you plan on sanding it first etc. 

But you can urethane an un-flat floor. Sanding/some sort of prep is preferred.

Yeah I got a 60 house with rimu floors. Keen to stain it a little darker though
