Popular Post sheepers
ive finally started the carport. its a little bit tricky and a little bit constrained by the roofs it has to intermesh with but it is still going to fit two cars side by side without to much drama so its not to bad. four posts in. i got one of the beams up as well but it was pretty dark by the time id finished so i couldnt take a photo. ill do a bit each night and i should have it done by sat arvo. 2020-08-03_09-47-09 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
got more done. all the timber is finished now and tomorrow if its not raining to hard or too windy ill chuck the tin on top. then lay some concrete tile thingo and its done. in going to use those tiles that the grass grows through. unfortunately i dont have as much depth as im supposed to so i have to lay the tiles directly on a sand/geofabric base which will be straight on the ground, no base course at all. there are some other issues as well like the spouting drains you can see sticking out of the ground in that picture above that i have to work around/over. the ground hasn't been disturbed except around the edges and its pretty hard, there was a concrete slab there before i pulled it out so im hoping it will stay fairly flat when we start driving cars on it. any thoughts?? 2020-08-06_05-58-40 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-08-06_05-58-18 by sheepers, on Flickr 2020-08-06_05-58-26 by sheepers, on Flickr
yetchh
Ideally you'd have 100mm of ap20/40 with a 20mm skim of crusher dust over that to lay the tiles in.. If you don't care about future subsidence where your tyres run, then go for it.. I'd also be wary about laying those directly over drainage.. sheepers
im not going to lay them directly on top of the pipes, i have to figure some way of bridging it or something. just after the exposed bits the pipes go straight down about 300 so the rest of it isnt an issue, just the little bit you can see. Bling
Could run some 200x50 from the gate concrete foundation, to the house. Then pay a student to come in and dig out the ground level to suit, backfill with at least some base course and then pave it up. Job I was at this week had pavers all out of level, so i'd want to do what I could to avoid that. Dug up dirt can be filled in either side of the new parking area to bring the level up a bit. Just thoughts. That carport looks well built for sure, dressed timber FTW.
yetchh
Can you not reroute that bit of pipe so it drops earlier? Looks like you have loads of room for some ap.. Like most house shit, if you do a quick job initially and it fucks out you'll kick yourself and wonder why you didn't just do that extra bit at the beginning.. Least that's what I do anyway. sheepers
the pipes you can see have 3 other pipes and the power feed for the gate underneath them. they aint moving. also thats the height they need to be to get the proper fall to the stupid retention tank. so yea they aint moving. one day i will probably concrete the whole bit but cant afford that right now. there is actually a student who lives down the road who owes me a favor or two because i fixed his starlet for him. maybe he can do some digging for me.
Thphantum
Re- Carport framing, I would probably look at tying all the frame/purlins together with joist hangers and blue screws. Its all about uplift on carports.
h4nd
You gonna put some building paper under the tin to soak-up/delay etc any condensation? I had to refresh mine to keep (other) drips from my Daihatsu in my converted carport.

Popular Post sheepers
and now for a bottom. i cleared all the weeds and whatnot and a joker from across the road came and gave me a hand to dig the ground to some sort of levelish state. i fixed his car for him a couple of times so he wanted to repay the favour. then i got 2.5 cubes of gap 40 delivered which i shoveled over the whole area. its about 50-70mm thick. would probably have liked it thicker but whatever. then i compacted it with a plate compactor. probably went over the whole thing 20 times? its pretty solid, well it feels pretty hard. i guess ill find out in a years time. tomorrow morning 1.5 cubes of sand gets delivered and ill level that out and compact it, monday the grow through pavers get delivered. once ive placed them ill get some topsoil delivered and fill in all the holes and chuck some grass seed at it. then ill park a leaky old shitbox 4M on top of it so nothing ever grows. 2020-08-14_05-41-11 by sheepers, on Flickr 15

sheepers
Fuck the 40 had boulders in it that caused me grief. 60 would have been an absolute cunt
xsspeed
Have you got a fall away from house from where you've stood to take pic? I know you're not doing concrete but that niche would be an annoying area to have water pooling in a big storm if you have cars in the way Also why gobi blocks and not a slab? Will grass even grow?
sheepers
there's no fall, or at least not very much but yea why? That's the whole idea of using a concrete tile with holes in it.
xsspeed
Poorly explained sorry, I mean in the areas not covered by roof, does it fall away from the carport or direct water in? Overland flow It will drain yeah, but not as good as normal lawn right, so you could get standing water if it's a spot that will collect water. From memory your site is pretty flat and falls down to the footpath so you might be sweet
