Popular Post sluggy
Maiden Voyage was - Auckland, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Palmy, Kapiti, Wellington, Upper Hutt, Masterton, Hastings, Napier, Taupo, Auckland. Went sweet apart from a wee drip from the gas tank, tried to tighten the offending cap and sheared it off in a rest stop, managed to bung up the hole and repair properly in another rest stop. Did some 0 - 60 times and 1/8 mile stuff on the OBD app thing. 4.9 second 0-60 and the 1/8th mile time translated to about a 13.9 second 1/4 (was 130 ish at 1/8 so pulled the pin), so pretty rapid for a 2.5 tonne pig, and 11.5l/100ks on the trip, with some looseness thrown in along the way. Been looking at Magnuson supercharger set ups...
Popular Post sluggy
Finally got round to making sure the tune was ok in the pig. Done 4000 ks in it so far hassle free, touch wood, did a bolt check and threw a bit of grease around. Made 353 hp at the rears (263.6 kw). Need to get the filter out of the engine bay, apart from sorting out some spark tables, it was knocking and reverting to low octane fuel tables because of inlet air temps. So theres 15 free (ish) hp available just by using a holesaw and a bit of panel steel... I havent got the tutd working as yet, wired up, but in the comadore it runs through the bcm (body control module) which I dont have in the chev, So I need to keep playing with that to get it working. Also discussed superchargers with the dyno operator. We both think its a great idea.
sluggy
Front roll bar in, rear to do. Wicked cornering coming up.
Popular Post sluggy
This thing is running sweet now. No good. This years plans are, just got a new windscreen washer, multi speed wiper motor (fast slow and delay) to modern it a bit. Need to get some bodywork, rust repair done and seal it up as it spends too much time uncovered. Last but not least, accidentally bought a crate lsa motor have acc drive and loom/ecu/tcm on the way. Will use existing box/diff. Should be another 100hp or so but mega more torque for sideways/circle work and 12s. So I'll be selling the ls3 with loom, ecu, tcm, pedal, power steering, alt, ac compressor... or buying a jetboat. I hate boats but I like fast. Also planning on getting back into the beetle this winter, need to get this at least running
sluggy
Ill be pulling out the Motor/Box late this month. Any interest please contact me, it is on retard me, I will do a better deal for someone from here. Selling the complete LS3 ecu Trans pedal package. Pretty much a straight bolt in if you have a small block chev based car/boat/van/truck/camper/plane/chainsaw. Have bought another box with fancy stuff in it that is good for 800hp/lotta torque, still a 6l80 but better. Photos to follow when I go dig out the new engine from hidey hole that missus doesnt know about... shhhh Its kinda a little bit tempting to overdrive the boost a bit to make the most of the gearbox. Im unsure as to how much the driveshaft/12 bolt will live with, so will probably leave it alone at this stage.
sluggy
Been collecting a few bits. Another radiator for the supercharger water/air intercooler, water pump and reservoir. Plus just chucking the acc drive on and getting a length on the blower belt... Waiting for trans. And to add a spanner into the works, looking for another warehouse for work, so this may have to wait until after the move to do the swap... Anyway, shiny bits photos
Popular Post sluggy
Donkey deep in the swap now. Finished up wiring on weekend, have put a vaporworx pwm set up on the fuel system. It gets fed fuel pressure, MAP, and ecu on off signal and makes the magic happen from there. I reran the fuel line in a 1/2" line, dead headed set up. Trans and engine are in, changed rear stoppers to disc, also changed pinion yoke to 1350 size, it was 1310. Remade all the front brake lines, replaced all ball joints, tie rod ends, basically all the steering/front end stuff is new. Changed the Instrument stuff to a Dakota digital set up that plugs into the Ecu for all the info. Cert check soon !!
Popular Post sluggy
Bit done over the weekend, tidied up the last of the wiring, stripped an internal thread on brake bias adjuster (bastard) , checked electrics, powered everything up, got radiator for supercharger heat exchanger mounted behind the diff, looked at trans cooler and put it back on the bench, got power steering half plumbed . One of my lads is a plumber so going to run 3/4" copper lines from front to back for the heat exchanger plumbing. And probably need to cover the front of radiator with mesh or something.
Popular Post sluggy
And it runs, briefly, usual dramas with brake line leaks etc... Managed to fuck a supercharger belt in 15 seconds - 8 rib belt and it was a rib to the left, but barring that electrics are all good, bit of wiring to finish off, trans cooler to secure and wire up (fan #4 - hovercraft spec), last of the copper line for Heat exchanger to sort tomorrow, mess around with fuel system pressure a bit and then burnouts.
sluggy
Belt jumped a rib at first start up, got it back where it was supposed to 30 seconds later general fuckery ensued.... just realised I am repeating myself - aged. Fighting me every inch of the way now... 3
Popular Post sluggy
Sooooo pretty much there, have had first cert check, small amount of remedial to do (mostly done) but will be legal before Christmas, but wont make the drags unfortunately... Anyway, I have a persistent code that the ecu is throwing that is doing my head in, new trans feels weird and is currently overly violent, but it goes like fuck... which is nice. Had to change wheels also... have to say they are kinda growing on me, and its nice having some sidewall. Then Feb, its off to the panel beater to sort some of the gnarly bits out, and probably clear coat it for winter running.
sluggy
Certed, dyno on next couple of weeks. Ongoing trans issues, I have been working hard at trying to get my head around the issue with a 2 3 shift that is fine at wot but is arse at part throttle. If anyone knows any 6 speed gm trans expert tuners, please pass on details...
Popular Post sluggy
I have finally sorted gearbox with a stock ctsv cadillac tune for the trans, it is like butter now... Will attempt to get to a night speed dragwars meet one night see what she does down the 1/4. I have put 4000 ks on it so far and back to daily driven...
sluggy
Someone was in a hurry to get to the beer fridge on friday.
sluggy
As mentioned in the shed thread, the truck is back form the painters, I let myself down a bit through abject laziness, couldnt be arsed stripping the dash and getting that sprayed, so internal patina will remain for a while longer (probably forever). Unfortunately the panel beater had a small fire whilst underneath it welding the sill on the LHS, caught the seat belt on fire, then the seat, and the headliner, so it will be back to the upholsterers sometime soon. He did offer to pay for it, so no real drama moving forward... So much shiny. Kept the original colour. Bit of reassembly to do. Big wiring tidy up in the tray, I was a bit loose with this on the initial wire up and its a bit of a mess. Pinion seal needs replacing. Trying not to ding it while reassembling, no promises.
sluggy
As predicted, I took a wee bit of paint off the drivers door because no door stop on, and loose/in a hurry... But truck now has a face again, all the lights are working, rear wiring and pinion seal all sorted, bumpers on front and rear, have started on doors. I got an electric window kit for it, because daily driver, so I can wind the passenger airconditioner down without having a fatal accident. So halfway there with that, waiting for some new window glass to arrive. Getting the side windows and rear tinted to help a bit with the aircon inside. She radiates a ton of heat through the firewall so will attempt to kill a bit of this with some extreme yoga install. Black plate. Rear bumper mount straightened, it was doglegged due to a greatest hit. Note correct welding footwear. WIndow switch uses original door handle, patina intact.
Popular Post sluggy
Gratuitous deck shot. In case you were wondering, there's 110 bolts and nuts in a longbed 62.
Popular Post sluggy
Annnnddd driving again. Just need a WOF, and a bit more finangling with the drivers door to get it to shut nicely. Passengers door is like butter, so satisfying. Found a really good glass guy for the windscreen after 10 or so flat no's to doing old curvy stuff...
