galaxiewagon Posted September 18 Posted September 18 What’s the NZTA view on patina that’s been oiled? I’m looking at importing a Galaxie wagon, and don’t want it to be un-warrantable. Similar patina levels to what Anglia4 posted above 1 Quote
anglia4 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Mine is on the road WOF and Rego with patina intact. I had to get a repair cert done on some rust repairs, and the repair certifier guy was told me I was going to need to work really hard on maintaining it in NZ conditions, but as far as compliance goes, no one seemed to be concerned. I've been putting penetrol on it, and have put RIPO Oil in the sills and around any seams that have lost their paint. It looks cool, but I'm getting over the maintenance, so eventually its gonna get painted. 2 Quote

I need to do my landrover and was threatening to just spray it in satin clear and calling it a day owing to it mostly being alloy bodied. Quote

Yeah I've just been getting it on a microfibre cloth, wiping it across the surface and then wiping off the excess. Then give it an hour or two and do it again, repeat until it stops soaking it up. The water seems to bead up nicely on it like after waxing the paint. I have only been using the penetrol on the front guards and bonnet, as it seems to stain the paint. So all the little worn edges and stuff are still giving me trouble. I've tried waxing them with the paint, but that doesn't seem to seal it enough and they keep weeping, which is annoying cos then it tea-stains the paint around them. \I should just paint it. 1 Quote

Maybe not suitable in your situation but I have found Toyota World Standard transmission fluid to be about the most effective thing I have ever found for preventing rust from forming on stuff. Quote
