yetchh
So with the inside 99% finished in the second week of April it was time to carry on with the outside. Progress was a lot slower than I initially imagined (typically) put down to the fact that I had to complicate things with the installation of access gates.. Anyway, got some more boxing on.. And gates installed Then came around the back of the house, my intention was to allways have a shed for the gas bottles and something around the califont to make it look less shit (whilst complying with the regs of course). In my haste to get compliance I made some stupid decisions with regards to placement of certain services i.e. Power, water and fiber. Couldn't move power but spent more time than was worth moving the fiber along.. Framed up the rest of the subfloor and built the bottle "shed" There is also another single gate to the left of the gully trap below. Clad it..
yetchh
Much tidier.. Hah. 7
yetchh
Then came around the front of the house to close that in.. Had to put in a few gates to access all that space. If you look close just to the right of the yellow bin you can see a black spot on the foundation, the water line I also had to move, paid for that one tho. Framed Gated, Clad, Gated...? Because this boxing warps so badly I have to install the gates without hinges then clad over the lot, let the timber shrink then cut the gates out and hang them = fucking around..
Popular Post yetchh
Whilst this was going on, missus and I finally decided on a colour to add to the oil (blackball), so she started the back of the house.. Had a bit of a second thought when she stained the uprights that are mac thinking we should have left them natural for a bit of contrast.. To late now tho, in saying that, they go darker than the pine boxing so maybe it won't be so bad..
yetchh
Capped the rear section of the base boards last weekend, Half of the mac boards banana'd by about 10-15, thankfully they didn't twist but I had to cut most of them straight. Thank fuck for table saws, Also spent a bit of time getting the compound miter right. Put a string up and cut some wedges as Packers for the cappings, Glued and bradded them in place.
yetchh
Drilled and dowelled the butt joins, I over sized the dowel holes a, to make it easier to align everything once the caps are on and b, so there's some epoxy all around the dowels to make the whole joint stronger. Mac likes to move around a bit. Epoxied, I was gonna use some stainless spax fixings and heat the end to discolour them, but fuck, the stain will colour them anyway so just used standard landscape fixings Got them pretty straight, not to bothered as they're supposed to look rough ish.

Popular Post yetchh
Back finished, You can see the sewer breather is cut, bought some more pipe so I didn't have h to cut around it with the capping. Still have to make a gate for the bottles and surround for the califont.
Popular Post yetchh
Then this weekend managed to get the front on and oiled before it rained this arvo. Wedges, I fucked around a bit yesterday morning and didn't start till lunch which was stupid, as I ended up having to epoxy and screw this bit in the dark having to wave my arms at the sensor every few minutes to get the lights to stay on so was in a rush. Mrs oiling before rain this morning, In my haste last night to get it on I forgot to take a screw out the was holding the board on so it didn't slide off, when I finally fixed the the batten screw I hit the smaller screw pushing it sideways and blowing the side of the mac off, was pretty pissed at myself, easy fix in the cold light of day with the kids pva hah. Had to redrill the pilot hole for the fixing so it don't try that trick again. So now I just have to finish under the back steps and the bottom of the house is all done.. Finally. 12

yetchh
Cheers bro, still got a bit to go before I'm finished but I've essentially broken the back of it now, "should" be a fairly easy run to the end (we all know how that means nothing and I've pretty much just jinxed myself)
Bling
Looking good man. Is this getting pushed along quicker due to plans to move up north? Don't forget that area behind / to the side of the gas cylinders needs to be sealed completely to stop any potential airflow.
yetchh
Yeah, constant work on it now to try and get it finished. I've put ply directly behind the bottles and to the sides slightly further than the base boards go (about 100mm)then it's just the mac.. Ply is hard down onto the concrete. Is that so any potential leaks would only drop out through the front instead of settling under the house?
yetchh
Yeah, although any escaped gas has been free to wander for the last 4 years..
yoeddynz
Just avoid smoking your bong under the house?
Bling
3 hours ago, yoeddynz said: Is that so any potential leaks would only drop out through the front instead of settling under the house? Yeah basically. If the underside of a house is enclosed like that you need to have 1m either side of the cylinders sealed. It's different when things are open and closed. Once closed up, it's considered part of the building, and so any openings into said building need to be sealed behind the cylinders and 1m each side. I guess the theory is the gas is mixed with a lot of air by the time it gets that distance and so is less of a problem. Council will pull up air gaps in bricks within 1m of cylinders. Just rules being rules etc. After install, gas supplier can also pick up on things (quite common) and refuse to supply more gas until fixed.
yetchh
We did start getting letters from the supplier once I started closing everything in.
yetchh
Yes, still toiling away.. Had some things going on the last 6 weeks plus some rain days. Feels like some weekends I get fuck all done.. Actually, that's most weekends. Anyway, Got the last bit under the back stairs done a while back, just cleans it all up. Not much to look at. Framed, Luckily my driver just for under the cladding to drill the dowel holes. Would have been a cunt otherwise. So that really does make the bottom finished. Thank fuck.
