Brdflu
They changed the rules last year from memory on how the way they are welded. Found out when the dude who brought my GX61 went for cert.
Snoozin
Oh righto. I am interested to know if that's the case then, Clint please respond if this is the case. We may have to re-engineer the front in my car for the third time now.

Was yours welded straight to the cast piece?
Yowzer
The ones sold on trademe / redline are welded directly to the stub axle aren't they? Which is strange when you can get them unwelded overseas.
SlipperyGX71
mine came unweilded so i have to have them tigged to my oem stub axle, which is ok aslong as its not tigged to the cast correct? dam cert rules

Which is strange when you can get them unwelded overseas. you could buy them both ways, but as far as i know they were only going to stock the weld it yourself ones for the last few years. the instructions that comes with them say to weld it straight to the cast bit, i know of at least one that broke when done like that
Yowzer
After welding a bunch of cast scrap steel together to make some shit I can see exactly why it's illegal. Shit goes very brittle.
EURON8
another Certifier i was speaking to recently was saying that another reason the pre welded ones are no good is the junk reproduction spindle they have is junk. Plus it's welded wrong anyway.
Brdflu
I had mine done by Surfab, he did them the exact same as Freshs GX71 and a few other ones over the years. This was the first time he had a problem with it.

This was the first time he had a problem with it. Hmmm thats not a great sign for me then as i was planning on getting in touch with Surfab to get mine done... and im guessing it was being certed at Christchurch? Just had a look on Freshs Build thread to see how his were done and it looks like they weren't plug welded maybe this could be why? (picture from his thread) But this is from 2012

Thankfully, I have Clint approval so I will run with it.
