Ghostchips
Starter motors range from really easy to fix, to almost impossible. Old fashioned lucas ones tend to be easy. Which type do you have/need?
Threeonthetree
It's an old Lucas starter. Once it's removed from the car you'll be able to ascertain the problem and fix it. Talk to Darryl at Economy Auto Repairs in Christchurch as he should have some good working starters there that he will sell.
noel
Geoff Henry Motors in Burns St beside Carisbrook, well, the remains is where to easily get parts for anything old and British.
locost_bryan
Bound to be a few Old School auto sparkies in Dunedin who know their way round Lucas starter motors, they were used on most British stuff through the '60s and '70s. Reasonably easy to rebuild, plenty of parts around since variants were fitted to "collectible" cars like Jags, Minis and MGs.
Wolf17
We tryed economy auto but he didn't have any to sell in resonable condition,we looking at taking it in to see if it's worth getting it reconditioned if not we will look at a second hand one
yoeddynz
Have a go yourself. Have you got a haynes manual? I fixed mine when I was a newbie. You can remove the solenoid and take it apart. it'll be all dry and sticky inside making it hard for it to move with enough speed/inertia to make a good contact across the poles. Nice car. I like the colour. proper old car colour. And MODGIES!!!!! Swoon.

Muncie
The good thing with triumphs is everything craps out within the first few months of ownership. After that they are usually as reliable as a wood burning stove.... change the oil condenser and points and plugs and you will have a happy machine just dont do burnouts, they can do epic burnouts but your diff will reward you with throwing its spider gears at the worst possible time.
locost_bryan
Burnouts in a Triumph, does that mean you have to wear your cloth cap backwards? Lol
Muncie
You haven't lived till you have done 3rd overdrive one wheel peels. You shall need to be wearing a triumph motorcycle logo belt buckle and faded texas tuxedo to pull it off successfully.
Wolf17
Only had it too months but has been reliable so far the only problem was starter (still works just need a wack with a hammer sometimes) all the rest was human error from previous owner ... To think he is doing his apprenticeship that's scary , it doesn't light up very well with the 7inch tires on the back.

Snoozin
Triumph's will soon own this forum, solid work. Let's band together with other British car owners to push out the influx of Japanese car enthusiasts to our secluded community.
