Haven't used him previously but the stuff he had on display at tuatara brewery for the bike show a few months ago looked pretty impressive, tho maybe not so important for some struts that are going to get painted?

Popped out to see Nick at Kapiti Vapour Blasting on Monday, nice guy, told me all about the process he follows and showed me some of his recent work, which looked pretty sharp. His turnaround times are quick, said he'd have my stuff done in a couple days. Will post some pics when I pick the parts up.

Here's a pic of the carbs I had cleaned up.

 

I had 2 hubs, 2 carbs, 2 fork legs and a top clamp done for under $200 including GST

They even came nicely wrapped in plastic, more than happy with their service.

Joe/Goat and I had a look at his stand at swapmeat. His work looks top notch!

When I picked up my stuff on Friday he said he had 5 sets of crankcases to do for his stand the next day

We're the carbs ultra sonic or vapour blasted

I did both but the blasting is what got them looking really good.

I asked him if he would blast a complete motor, said he could if I make caps to cover all the ports etc, as I've just put the motor back together

yeah, did he get much assblasting down the carb throats or were they blocked off?

Carbs were fully disassembled so the blasting jizz went everywhere I assume, they came back pretty clean, no residual grit that I noticed.

if they are using baking soda, could clean with water anyway

More blasting news.

Currently having a bicycle frame blasted and powdercoated by Metal Immersions in Tawa, was quoted $150 for stripping, zincing and powdercoating. Had a bike frame dipstripped years ago by them and was happy with the service, will update with outcome.

for anyone searching in the future, i took my touring bike to powdercoating nz in cambridge and had it blasted, masked, zincshield primerd, and powdercoated for $112 gst inclusive

 

just double check they know how to mask a bicycle otherwise you will end up with powdercoat somewhere like the fork crown

That's a good price, I was just gonna paint mine after they blasted it but aint got time fo dat so happy to pay and at least it is local for dropoff/pickup.

The dude kept trying to convince me to get it done in pink, I couldn't tell if he was joking by the end then there was a weird silence for a bit.

What the finish stay like on vapour blasted parts say after a few years?

 

I'm thinking about getting some parts done but would be pretty keen to put some sort of protective layer on them either clear powder coat or 2k clear. What have others used?

I was recommended some stuff called ACF50, aircraft spec stuff. Have coated my streetfins too now so we'll see how good it is.
