Muncie Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Found reason for limp mode...... haha its bad but funny and easily fixed. My wiring for the ignition module was melted to the exhaust manifold and 4 wires became 1. Separated them out she's happy again did some spirited driving it think she may be faster than a stock ecotec even with lower compression. No wonder I was getting a check engine light but no DTC there isn't a DTC FOR YOU'RE WIRING IS MELTING DICKHEAD. Now to sort starting it needs some pedal to get going. 3 4 Quote
Roman Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Great stuff! That was a pretty good turn around time on getting new motor sorted. Quote
Muncie Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 Its run in now sounding buttery smooth and quiet not much blowby I've got some synthetic oil to chuck in. Just done several laps around Huntly fairly spirited driving lots of engine braking and revving out to no where near rev limit but up there. 6 Quote

Cheers to be honest I could of got it done quicker if I planned better quite a few parts came from Oz and the US, bottom end is like building a flash concrete mixer fairly simple but cleanliness in a garage where I fab stuff was tricky so much ocd cleanliness had to happen. Ive learned heaps but now Ive got money in this about 3.5k im in no hurry to blow it up so Development will be a lot more planned. I'll be re watching my HPACADAMY videos again. 4 Quote
Muncie Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Broke out the Autosol today and repolished the things that used to be shiny im going to pull out the intercooler plumbing out give that a buff up while it runs NA for its WOF. Will pull its face off remove the Intercooler and fit an uncut crash bar see what they say. @jakesae101 the Brakes are bloody fantastic! and look nice as after a cleanup. Been doing normal car things today like driving around for no reason taking people for drives and getting groceries its back to being a normal useful car again......... I can't wait to drop the turbo back on though it take it to track and romp on it a bit. Head porting has definitely made it more rev happy it comes alive over 3000rpm and pulls through to 6000rpm happy as. High stall holds to 2500rpm so its going to have no flat spot off line. 6 Quote
Muncie Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 Dropped run in oil this morning after a healthy amount of varied driving around and dialing in the IAC using chat GPT (its really fucking good at this!) She's a good un. Oil had some fine glitter in it only 3 small flakes that look like machining particles these obviously hadnt been through oil pump so likely fell out of an oil gallery into sump. Ill keep driving it around for a bit unturbo'd as that will give it a nice easy lead in to life and save dicking around at wof time. Also I dont have a tune i trust with this $$$$ engine. Hopefully boring updates from here out or none maybe for a while...... that would be great! 2 Quote
Muncie Posted January 18 Author Posted January 18 I had some concerns with some sounds I couldn't quite identify so haven't driven much spent an hour or 2 under it today chasing all the exhaust leaks and can now rest a bit easier the leaks were the source of everything I was worried about. It now ticks over like a Swiss watch quiet as anything at 500rpm which is lower than I'd like so I need to do some more IAC adjustments bump that up to about 750rpm and its good for a warrant. Ive started getting turbo stuff ready have ordered some more AN Fittings to redo the turbo feed line with pressure gauge inline so I can pop the bonnet for a sanity check if I want to. Im against sticking gauges in unless I really have too. Bonnet scoop should arrive tomorrow as well so I can get the heat out of engine bay. No pics, its a good thing this time nothing worth recording. 6 Quote
Muncie Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 Like the colour but this scoop looks remarkably like a body board in size and shape. Looks ok on car its for a VK so needs some pressure to pull i down to fit this car. Can't wait for my boneless wiper blades from Aliexpress to show then I can get a WOF 2 1 Quote
Muncie Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 Ive had a tuner from Ozzie reach out who's basically shared his magic setup he uses for timing and fuel that is safe and makes good power for my combo 400plus hp he reliably gets from these. Bloody top bloke for giving up some time for free when he does this stuff for a business........ Obviously didn't want to watch me send another engine to the naughty corner. So this weekend has been sat at computer setting everything up, theres a few things ive got extra like a big airflow meter so theres a few extra steps in there to verify that NA before I flash in the tune and bolt on the turbo, If it wasn't pissing with rain it would be done today. Ive got a few extra strength upgrades in the engine to so should be able to push a bit more Horsetorques if I feel like it. Excited but nervous. 2 Quote
Muncie Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 For anyone who tunes there was a Blip in my previous map that was commanding 22 degrees of timing and 12.8 AFR at MBT i thought it was noise as it was just a spike like how my rpm sometimes spikes to 22,000rpm turns out it was real data now I know how I fucked that up Im bloody amazed it lasted so long no wonder it was so punchy! Feel free to laugh and call me an idiot, I need to learn Quote
Roman Posted January 25 Posted January 25 At what rpm? If you were doing 7000rpm 22 deg is probably alright. bit lean though Quote
Muncie Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 2850rpm...... so about 5psi of boost no wonder the bearings looked like toothpaste not an instant killer but bloody spicy!! Knock retard was pulling 4 degrees but not all the time it was on ragged edge all it needed was higher inlet air temp to make it ping. 100 octane fuel was definitely working hard. 1 Quote
Roman Posted January 26 Posted January 26 How does the ignition table work? RPM and mass airflow as axis? Quote
Muncie Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 17 hours ago, Roman said: How does the ignition table work? RPM and mass airflow as axis? Yeah theres various tables main one is worked out in grams per second, bit weird at 2000rpm im at 300 then 2500rpm im at 700 so trying to get a table that looks ok with that kind of change is a bit challenging Quote
Muncie Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 Might as well throw the turbo on took 15 minutes so i timelapsed it. Quote
Muncie Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 Have the magic professional tuner approved tune loaded it, its safe as fuck but still punchy, shes moving a heap of air now way more than before even at wastegate pressure only. No knock retard events on logs so as long as nothing else happens its just fine tuning from here. 3 Quote
Muncie Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Ive now maxed out the limits of my ecu won't stop me making lots of power but im out of I/O and safety of the engine up to me not the PCM, so lets start a side project and see if I can run this off an LS PCM using Boost OS firmware. This won't happen quickly. Quote
Muncie Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 If anyone is thinking why the fuck would you do that, in this application I can set it up to run drive by wire coil near plug (IGN1A style) boost control launch control 2 step and so much other cool shit, as well as run the transmission. Even better it can be integrated back into the car so everything works dash ABS ETC. I may figure it out I may just tinker with it I scored for an absolute bargain so had to give it a go im well down the wormhole with GM PCM'S now its the platform that should do everything im after.
