Muncie Posted October 25, 2025 Author Posted October 25, 2025 It has about 45psi of oil pressure at idle stuck my gauge on it yesterday goes up to 65 plus with a rev so at least i know thats not issue. Started today....... its not bloody doing it, has the knocking object fallen in to sump?? Is it not warm enough. Jesus. Quote
Roman Posted October 25, 2025 Posted October 25, 2025 Any chance it could be an exhaust leak? I've had some alarming sounding noises that ended up just being a microfart of exhaust gas sneaking past a gasket 2 Quote
Muncie Posted October 25, 2025 Author Posted October 25, 2025 Ok definately there once hot sounds like its up high runs nice but sounds like its trying to eject marbles. Tried dead stock map with only injector specs put in to make it run so my hunch of wonky timing was not the issue. I think its buggered pending inspection of valvetrain. Anyone want my spot at drag day? Quote
Muncie Posted October 26, 2025 Author Posted October 26, 2025 Ok, so this is where im at...... can anyone spit ball a cost to machine the block 20 over and tidy up surfaces hot tank etc even better if you want the job. Knock sounds high up im going to pull the turbo timing cover and inlet manifold if nothing screams im fucked! In there its coming out. 1 Quote

Muncie Posted October 26, 2025 Author Posted October 26, 2025 Yeah you just cut em in half for a v6 2 Quote
Muncie Posted October 26, 2025 Author Posted October 26, 2025 I need to price all this shit up as im about as far past scope creep as i was ever expecting to go already but im done with "great runner" second hand engines im not doing this again. 1 Quote
Muncie Posted October 29, 2025 Author Posted October 29, 2025 Check the filters thats a great idea to gauge how fucked something is..... This is the filter in the prssure reg of Turbosmart OPR2 , now first time opening this and it could be trash from old engine luckily (for turbo) ive hardly driven car or run for long. Pulled a rocker cover in crevaces where oil sits theres a some very fine glitter and not much of it its presence isnt good though. I think it could be the timing chain as in front of engine its loudest however even if it is theres metal everywhere. 2 Quote
Muncie Posted October 29, 2025 Author Posted October 29, 2025 I cant help but think of how Top Gear used to bring out an Austin Allegro if your car shat itself before or during a challenge. This thing......... its the bloody equivalent at moment. 2 4 1 Quote

Nominal Posted October 29, 2025 Posted October 29, 2025 What's the objective here? A fast Commodore? Why not get an LS1 etc. 1 Quote

Im not even sure anymore, was supposed to be a fast v6 on a budget but 7k for machining without parts was way more than i expected. 10k for a v6! Makes me wonder what else i could bolt up to trans and fit the turbo too. Might have to lower standards or admit finacial defeat. 2 Quote
RUNAMUCK Posted October 29, 2025 Posted October 29, 2025 Just find a donor motor you can hear running in a car. then open up the ring gaps, (only cost you a set of gaskets, and a bit of time) and boost to the moon. 2 Quote

Just do a backyard bearing roll and re ring? If you don't measure it you won't know it's out of spec etc. Work mate was going to do a similar boosted v6 build on his vr but ended up ls swapping for similar money 1 Quote

Muncie Posted October 30, 2025 Author Posted October 30, 2025 Im looking at whole supercharged cars at this moment might as well get a shiny car out of this catastrophy. That way i can use all my parts. I could turbo a car in 4 hours with all my bolt ons as just enlarging one hole under airbox. Rockauto rings and bearings are also a consideration but ive been through a lot to get to this point, a third time around would do my head in if it didnt work out. 3 Quote
RUNAMUCK Posted October 30, 2025 Posted October 30, 2025 Shhhhh, just do it! Dingle ball, all the gap, new shells, and full send. Surely you can lay your hands on a micrometer? If you haven't cold manged it on cocked over bearings, the shadt should be okay to polish and re-use. Quote
