Muncie Posted October 5 Author Posted October 5 Was hoping to have a really clean tidy engine bay...... yeah think im past that for moment i just want it running again. Zach pointed out that ive blown the sleeper aesthetic with the BMW wheels I might see if I can find something that'll fit the hsv brakes inside without giving the game away, the ridiculously loud turbo spool can do that for me instead. Countdown to drag day 3 Quote
zach_munce Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I think ac schnitzers probably reps would be good 17 or 18 inch and still very wide and 18s are easier to find good cheap tyres for Quote
zach_munce Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Good looking wheels but definitely not as suspect as the tiger claws Quote
zach_munce Posted October 5 Posted October 5 or just get vy ss remakes (20s) just quite spendy tho 1 Quote
Muncie Posted October 7 Author Posted October 7 New springs arrived today as like 1900's me last year i cut my front springs to look cool and spent the year worrying about it catching the bumper on everything.... no mucking around full set 50mm drop Jamex springs seemed like bloody good value (spare me your horror stories if they are shit) and arrived in less then 24 hours thumbs up for service. The rears are bloody tiny but chunky i won't be wrestling to get these in! Oil, coolant miscellaneous sundry item are all here some other items are on way. Heat management is a priority this time so new turbo and wastegate blankets have been procured waiting to be stuck on. Bends to sort the routing of crossover pipe are here as that only cleared cross member under heavy acceleration and wrap to cover it all up. Basically heaps of small jobs left i think once on ground ill need to rework rear of exhaust as I'll now be identifying as lowered and will smash It repeatedly if I dont. 6 Quote
Muncie Posted October 8 Author Posted October 8 And rear springs are in still got 100mm of clearance under exhaust so will be where it stays im done changing bloody springs! 1 Quote
Muncie Posted October 8 Author Posted October 8 Engine bay is slowly going back together so much wiring to try untangle and make tidier its getting there. Will aim to start up on weekend. Manifold got a couple of cold looking mig welds reflowed with tig. 6 Quote
Muncie Posted October 10 Author Posted October 10 Wiring is done except for plugging 3 connectors in to transmission meh I'll do that when I do driveshaft. Only crossover pipe to be rejigged i put up with the rattle for ages because it worked but was hard on v bands so I'll tuck it up a bit higher then turbo can go on. I could put a battery in and check for oil pressure..... I've got the weekend to get everything done i am expecting some water leaks so have forgone anti freeze till I know its not going to need revisiting. All in all maybe 4-5 hours till i drive again. Nice! 6 1 Quote
Muncie Posted October 12 Author Posted October 12 Ive got a separate instagram profile for my car stuff so my family doesn't get punishment with all my Barrying. https://www.instagram.com/muncies_chop_shop?igsh=MXY4bmI3Y2J4NXd3Zg== Also on YouTube under Muncies Chop Shop Hopefully have some more interesting content on both soon as i want to start peddling tunes to people. 2 Quote
Muncie Posted October 13 Author Posted October 13 Tentative drive complete has a few exhaust leaks to investigate but more then drivable. Is alot harder to start than old engine. But hi stall works seems to stall about 2000-2300rpm it gets up on boost now and wants to go so haven't really loaded it right up to keep neighbours happy Cooling system no longer slowly builds pressure, it was breathing a little through catch can but thats settled down fairly minimal now. Has a random issue that seems like a crank angle sensor dying but I did splash water every where filling radiator hopefully with the heat soak the engine bay will be dry and that goes away. Oil light flickers at idle but thats likely the fact the sensor is old as or mounted in a tee with lots of thread tape. 4 Quote
Muncie Posted October 13 Author Posted October 13 Found a cool turbo badge on sales reps Holden Trax at work so yoinked it 3 4 Quote
Muncie Posted October 13 Author Posted October 13 Wof is booked for 27th again took a week off work to cover getting er done! Oh and i bought another turbo Holden for Zach to sit his licence in ironically the car i took the badge off was off to be traded in they lowballed i counter balled with less dramas so took it home. If the commodore doesn't make it this will be the stand in maybe remap the poor thing. Quick service and flick it will pay for this last round of mods once Zach has got driving sorted. 3 Quote
zach_munce Posted October 14 Posted October 14 hsv Holden trax? actually can get a remap and higher flow turbo for relatively cheap they make 140 stock 200 would be cool haha Quote
Muncie Posted October 15 Author Posted October 15 First drive its bloody punchy but I think i have cocked up my .bin file its massively patched and I think something is off keeps shutting off once you get into it, Was a patched spark cut file when i got it that had some issues then I edited it further to get 2 step, so im going to roll back to a safe version i lose spark cut and 2 step but now ive high stalled the converter it builds boost easily now anyway. Will see if that stabilises everything if it doesn't I've got wiring issues, Fingers crossed. my software will handle timing and fuel as is fortunately so that work wont be wasted. On upside I took it too 5000rpm and off the converter it just goes no lag. 3 Quote
Muncie Posted October 15 Author Posted October 15 Ok............ so yup some code is fucked. But the falling on face was traction control and torque limits exceeded my previous (what I thought was) moonshot settings. Quote
Roman Posted October 15 Posted October 15 Is AI doing any of your coding or bin file changes? Like how do you know what to change or not, in the ECU? Or how do you know that you are editing the right things? I'm curious about the process. Seems amazing that a factory ECU can do things like launch control. 1 Quote
Muncie Posted October 16 Author Posted October 16 Its coded in visual studio then flashed in as a patch in Tunerpro or my software I've put together (basically targets specific hex) and has way less things to fuck up. Yes there's AI involved mainly when I get errors. I ask AI how its done it finds me sources and examples and I give it a go. So basically PCM firmware from the internet then I try and rejig to do what I want from it. 1 Quote
Muncie Posted October 16 Author Posted October 16 I use ChatGPT to explain to me how things work or how to adjust to get the results i want. But in general it cant spit out a ready to run Binary file. Tried once it ran but was no where near right. It does fuck things up. Check verify check again then run but all changes are done by me typing shit in 2 Quote
Muncie Posted October 16 Author Posted October 16 Ran my safe tune same issue, ive had this before..... behaviour is same as when I shat crank angle sensors the 4 other times years ago. So i think ill start there with a new sensor as they do just go for no apparent reason. @vk327 can you hook me up again? your only person that sells good sensors 2 Quote
