The Colin Chapman mantra that a Lotus should only be strong enough to last until the end of the race, probably shouldn't apply to anything else.  Lighten everything until it breaks, then make the replacement a little bit stronger, perhaps not the best design ethos.

Magnesium extrusion container I designed has a safety factor of less than 2.
