Popular Post Mop Head
So after living abroad for a few years and succumbing to small bike fever, I eventually got a Toy built in the way of a beautiful c70:Sadly, due to the mods there was little chance of making it compliant over here so I had to part with her before moving home. It was about that time that ol' c50 came into my life as a bunch of parts and the frame/engine all askew in the back of a station wagon. I moved home to meet her in pieces and then went to work and forgot put it to the back of my mind for a few months. A couple of weeks back I returned from a regular trip to Thailand with a whole bunch of goodies and thought it might be time to finally start the build. Here's what's happened so far.The bare frame as purchased, the last owner did a decent spray job, but for the life of me I can't figure out why they painted over the original decals. Hence the red patch on the tank: Next it was time to chop off the tail and get cracking on the forks too: The plans so far include the following: 4.25 inch front rim - Racingboy 4.50 inch rear rim - RacingboyAftermarket Swingarm - BoushiFront disc conversion - Racingboy parts mostly12 v conversionNew engine build DBK Racing More....figuring it out as I go alongAll parts are sourced myself direct from the respective factories and shipped here or bought as luggage on my trips back and forth to Thailand. Swingarm comparison:Currently stripping the new hubs so I can get the rims laced up and ready to go: They are almost sorted, ready for polishing and a clear coat before lacing them up. (first time, wish me luck). Also the new tyres just arrived from Cycletreads in Auckland: Of course with the tyres here I became impatient and did a very very rough mock up, completely out of proportion and all:I'll post updates as they happen. New leg shield and engine are the next things to come, but there is alot of frame prep to go just yet. Fun times ahead! I post updates on https://www.facebook.com/mopednz often also. Cheers Admin for approving me and I look forward to sharing the rest of the build in the coming months.

Mop Head
So a few more parts have been arriving. This is my new brake lever/reservoir from Racing Boy. It's a limited edition run for the Thai group, only 500 produced so far and I've got one! Sadly it's stuck in Thailand till I head there next in a couple of months. Finishing the hubs today in time for lacing the rims this weekend. Small steps...
Mop Head
Nothing too exciting today. Just polishing. Half way there. I had planned to paint the hubs black but now I'm just opting to do the rear brake plate, as it will match the front disc which is also black. Then shiny mirror hubs will look pretty awesome hopefully. I did manage to short out the ancient bench polisher though, so only finished about 80% of the rear hub. Hope to have everything ready for lacing this weekend! The goal is to have tyres mounted Monday as the whole frame/tail/forks depend on the final size of the tyres when inflated and ready to go

Mop Head
Small early weekend update on the mighty c50 build. After the bench polisher being sorted out I had another go on the hubs before heading home with an epic load of goodies:I also mocked up the shortened tail, most of these Street Cubs chop the tail as I have an leave it. But living in NZ, with the ol' 4 seasons/1 day situation I'm pretty keen to keep just enough to stop spray from the rear wheel. Here is the test placement, will have to fit the wheel before deciding if it's gonna work:Once home, I decided to give the lacing a go:After multiple failed attempts and varied swear words, I managed to get them to the point of true-ing. Which I'll be able to begin next week. Here's a final pic, showing the disc/caliper set up with the racing boy shocks:That's enough for now. Will get onto it again in the new week.
Horse25
Hey, great build, what size wheels are you using? Did you ship them over from Thailand? I am after a new 17inch 36 spoke alloy rim

Mop Head
Cheers man! Good to speak with you. Yeah, I import Racingboy Rims and the Boushi swingarms direct from the factory. This build is almost a show case of all the parts I'm able to get. Currently trying to sort the new engine! When speaking with a country that doesn't use English as a first language, conversations that would normally take minutes face to face end up taking a whole week over the net. Haha. DB8-TypeR
Its not finished snd I already want it! Need to find a cheap C50
Mop Head
Haha cheers mate. Yeah they are becoming like hens teeth now, especially in the North Island. A couple of guys have been forced to re-rego their lapsed plates as 50cc motorbikes, and they now need a WOF every 6 months. Defeats the point of having a c50 really. So any with live rego/on hold are shooting up in cost. I paid about $450 for this in parts, rego on hold. - Back in Feb.
kempy
Is that because they're not standard or have the rules changed? hope not
Mop Head
Is that because they're not standard or have the rules changed? hope not I don't think they have changed. From what I read of the situation they either didn't know what they were doing or something else went wrong along the way.

Mop Head
Just picked a few bits up for my v50 and c50. Only took a year to find an alternative to eBay. A darn sight cheaper too.
Mop Head
Been doing some very minor work today figuring out the vision for my tail light. Had limited access to the work shop today, so hopefully more work can continue next week.

Mop Head
Haven't had much time for the c50 at the moment, just part hunting and twiddling thumbs waiting for them to arrive. I did do another tail light placement, think I'm gonna keep going with this idea:Seat arrived today too! Excitement, can't wait to see it on the bike:
Mop Head
Waiting on black spokes and polished hubs to arrive. I won't be pursuing the disc brake option with this bike. Due to the leading link suspension, the disc would end up being more of a show piece than anything with my plans, the last thing i"ll need is more weight. So if anyone wants a nice disc, hub and caliper set up let me know. This set up here: Disc, hub, caliper and bolts. If anyone is keen here, send me a message and I'll sort something out.
