Well.

 

Probably a premature post, & an unobtainable deadline for me but here goes...

 

I'm giving myself 10 weeks today to get this car all tarted up & on the road. Why 10 weeks?...meh, well just cos..for now.

 

Now I'm not renowned for meeting these kinda deadlines with cars/work/etc... I've had this car since March this year & I said (to whoever was listening at the time) I'd get it on the road by Xmas, & I still haven't started cos of life & always other things going on.

 

Belonged to a mate of mine I met thru crossfit & found out about it when he brought his mint little SSS in one day & mentioned he had a '73 HQ he was contemplating moving on (pic for reference & requisite drool)..

 

This is how it sat when I first saw it (and fell in love with it)..

 

 

 

I've always wanted a '73 HQ. Grew up riding in the back seat of mum & dad's HQ Comm. Games car, year I was born, yadda yadda yadda..

Meant I had to downsize the collection (of rusty cars), so I sold the HQ race car, HJ one tonner, FJ40 Landcruiser & Torana sedan. Felt good to downsize to be honest & in reality when would I ever get around to getting all these cars done??

Here's where it sat for a few months while the shed was being built..

 

In transit to it's new abode..fun stuff doing this shit by yourself & trying not to hit anything..

Here is what the car used to look like about 10 years ago before it got stripped down & what I hope to bring it back to looking like..including all its (probably dealer/first owner fitted) badges..

Spent a few hours on Saturday an Sunday cleaning out the car. Happy to report no rust to worry about. Boot looks to have been tidied up in the past. Need to remove the PVC pipe & I'll make up a plate to go over it (used to run on CNG a long time ago)

 

 

 

Mate had already done the work around the windscreen's & with a quick wipe of a rag it came up all shiny..

And a bit of video evidence that the mighty six runs. It had been sitting for the last 10 years since the tear down started so I thought I'd try & get it started.

 

Armed with my 2nd hand Zebra battery & trusty can of magic spray it only took 2 or 3 initial attempts before it fired into life - so happy! Only ran it for about 30-40 seconds cos I didn't have a radiator hooked up, & I ran the hose thru it afterward for extra paranoia points.

Small update, but anything is progress in my life..

 

The car had a few area where surface rust was working it's way under some of the previous primered areas like this..

 

 

so spent yesterday sanding them all back & deoxedine them, the roof was the worst of it on this side..

 

 

Next weekend (I hope) to wash all the dust & crap off the car & probably re-deoxidine the sanded areas again, then etch prime & hifill.

Pffft.. forget all earlier delusions of short deadlines.

No progress here but I did finally get this visor on the car. Did a swap with Azzurro and this thing fits perfect. Thanks man! Big thanks to the OS delivery system too. You know who you cool cats are.

I even sat in the car and made broom broom noises and hung my arm out the window. Now why would I ever think of selling this thing??
