wiring diagram for 1987 LH series toymotor hiace needed...

Can anyone help. I keep looking on net but either they want moonbeams or the sites go through several redirections and end up at random crocodile porn..or something.

Our lights are/have been iffy for.. (embarrassed face) years and getting stranded halfway between nelson and motueka tonight is that final kick up the bum I've needed to make me think.." gee whizz.. I really need to look into this problem Pronto! I'll do it next week..'

Problem being this. I turn the lights on but only the sidelights come on. The blue high beam telltale is on too. But no mains. Flick in and out of high/dip does nothing. Blue light stays on but still no mains. But I can activate high beam by pulling light switch back. Usually if I leave it and just start driving with sidelights only (not fun at night..) the mains will suddenly just come on. Could be 10 secs, could be a few minutes. Sometimes ages. Tonight I just thought fuck it and drove along pulling switch back keeping full beam on. After a minute or so I let it off and the mains stayed on. Random.

I've checked in the past all the relays etc and it's just a annoying intermittent fault. Really considering ditching the "they look expensive" stock relays and redoing the lot with common garden variety relays but with a diagram I might find somewhere else to check first.

i was thinking the switch but when you move it between positions you can hear the relays click on and off.  I think if it was the switch it would be less random.

Aliens!?

Edit- cheers simon. Ive actually got a complete spare switch unit from when we bought and stripped another LH66 for its engine etc. Sadly some idiot (me) didnt think ahead and cut through the cable before the multi plug. Why? Haste/stupidity..

You still won't know if the fault is in the relay or switch tho.

Wat.

If you operate the switch and the relay clicks, but the lights don't work then the relay contacts are toast. Putting a jumper across the two terminals in the relay socket can confirm this if the light bulbs and wiring to them is sweet.

You may also set your multimeter to current setting and jam the probes in the socket.

Oh cool- cheers man! With that and my multi meter, some coffee and sunshine Im sure i'll work it out.

While on the subject of lights- ours hi ace has the square lights with sealed beams. They are useless. So bad Im tempted to drive at 4 mph and get hannah to walk in front with a lantern instead. I would like to have non sealed units with seperate bulbs so I can fit some decent wattage bulbs. Anyone got any ideas on cars/vans that might have the same units but not sealed. Otherwise Id love to change the grill over to the round headlight version and then I can get 8" non sealed units to fit. I much prefer the look of round lights on these hiaces anyways.

Hi everybody

Im Stéphane, from France, happy owner of hiace 1987 4WD lh66. Very rare véhicule here but I know it’s more popular in NZ or OZ as I remember when I was there ;)

At the moment I’m working on some upgrades in the van but I need to find the entire wiring diagram to organise my electrical modifications in better way. But... impossible to find it here and even on internet I spent an entire day trying to find it but without any success.

May I ask you if you could help me if you have these diagrams somewhere ?

Many thanks

Stephane

And this is my beast ;)
