120why
Been a while since an update, A14 has been running well. Finally got the jetting better, smoother to drive and more fuel efficient! Up'd the main jets and changed the emulsion tubes to improve the change between idle and main jet. Its still a little bit lean, but have spent far too much lately on trial and error with finding the jets. In November, my diff became seriously whiney. Ended up buying a 2nd hand head to put in, this seems to be working okay for now. Sourced a Datsun H165 ute diff 4.11 ratio, this needs some mods to fit but will be far stronger than the h150 thats in the car at the mo. Will be working on this throughout the year when I visit home during breaks from uni Took the car to Caffeine and Classics at Hampton Downs after xmas, also came to the Oldschool Drags at Meremere!
120why
Cut off the h150 brackets to mount onto the h165. Will need to make sure I weld these on perfect! aiming for a non cert swap as the diffs are practically identical Yarns heeeeerre
Popular Post 120why
Long time no update. Car ran super well over summer, minus a little incident where I struck some slippery stuff (oil?) on the way up the bombay hill heading to Auckland for a classic meet. Long story short, front of the car hit the barrier, was lucky it missed the wheel and didn't swing the back end into it! 100km on full lock doesn't feel too good. About a week later we were heading to Leadfoot fest so had to quickly turn a repair around and get it presentable again... Slide hammer and a few dollys helped with that.

Popular Post 120why
Working on installing an H165 in the Y. Getting a bit over replacing the H150 heads, the A14 seems to destroy them... Cut H150 perches off, realigned and welded onto the h165 housing. Found a driveshaft in the shed, 1275mm long. Aligned this up and seems to fit well with the larger diff. Not sure what this is off? Something A series. Would like to acquire another one if anyone has one. Working on a bracket for the handbrake now, will be using the h150 120y cable. Need to offset the mount by 100mm to fit the h165 diff Aiming to wire wheel the diff and get it painted this weekend and installed next week! Thanks corona Come have a yarn while your stuck at home!
120why
Few small updates from today - Bracket made for 120y hand brake cable to mount, bit on the ugly sign but she'll do! Diff wire wheeled, rust treated and prepsol'd ready to prime tomorrow. Aiming to have the diff in on Sunday after I do a some exhaust mod's...
120why
More updates... Laid some paint this afternoon ready to go back in the car. Also, forgot I never posted the guard resurrection. In December last year I spent some time repairing rust, filling and sanding. Got some paint matched, its not perfect but pretty close considering the lime/yellow/milky colour. The paint tin is back at the shop and they are having another go at it. So back to the diff, aiming to have the exhaust sorted on Saturday and the diff in on Sunday. Might go for a hoon up the road on Sunday night
120why
Diff installed and running well! Ended up getting a driveshaft shortened, re balanced and a new joint fitted under level 3! The 4.11 ratio provides a fair bit more torque than the 3.9 and is paired well with the 5 speed box! Anyway, I was asked a while ago to share some photos of inside the car as I'm pretty useless at this... Interior is 95% mint, a tear in the hood lining and a tear in the already repaired drivers seat. Plans to get this tidied up soon! Went for a little drive to the beach!
Popular Post 120why
Wow, long time no update. Cars been running well, I vapor blasted the carbs over Auckland's lockdown 2021 edition because boredom was real. Turned out pretty trick! Last week @R3spct organized a Dyno day for the Datsun folk. Started with 101hp first run with 138 main jets and 16 degrees timing. Reduced jets to 125 main and then 10 degrees advance to produce 109hp. Pretty happy but the dyno graph shows my AFR is up the shiet. Cheers @Roman for the video. Anyone have knowledge with AFR and Dellortos? I'm about to purchase an AFR gauge and wideband to aid in getting it right. 10
120why
Had fun last year at 2022 Oldschool Nats. Bit of a delay in photo updates, but hey Had some issues with timing and crank key wearing. I couldn't get the thing off the line very fast! Sorted now, so should be ready for Drags 2023!
Popular Post 120why
Datsun's love rust, this car is not immune to it either. 8 years of paint has done very well all considering. Bathurst was on, so a good chance to get stuck into it and also work on Dads SSS. Forgot to take finished images. Blended the paint and buffed it in, happy with the blend! NZ Datsun North Island Meet - New Plymouth. We had 4 120y come along, a good drive from Auckland to NP, around the mountain and back!
Popular Post 120why
Some film images from 2022 Datsun Nationals that I organised last year. We spent the morning on the drag strip, afternoon doing a grass autocross followed by a 60 person dinner. Sunday was a drive to Castlepoint, lunch at Tinui pup then cruise to Martinborough. I say cruise lightly, it was more a sprint There is a bunch more photos about, it was an awesome weekend https://photos.app.goo.gl/iYnSCnW6hemBWeV59
Popular Post 120why
The time has come... What a full on weekend getting this done. Stage 6 camshaft from Auckland Cams, 5.8kg flywheel & new clutch. Something I have been wanting to do for sometime but haven't had the opportunity. Saturday - pulled engine & box, installed camshaft and timed up as per specifications (18 deg adv), installed lightened flywheel and new clutch. Engine back in and carbs bolted on, chokes changed to 32mm from 31mm (need some 34's) and the main jets upped from a 125 to a 130. Engine mount changed as I found it was broken in half (lol) and causing the radiator fan to hit the shroud... I thought this noise was the clutch being fk'd hence why I got a new clutch and installed the lightened flywheel... alas I was wrong. Sunday - First start, ran for 20mins at 2000rpm and then went for a sedate drive! Sunday afternoon, drove to Mount Maunganui for a beer and some chips, then hauled ass home, man does this machine sound great on full song.
