Wild-arse guess here; but I see that your holes are vertical, and those are just above are in a horizontal band. Maybe possibly that's setting up a vortex to swirl/heat the air (and maybe diesel vapour) in a donut shape?

Would love to see film of that one runnng please @AllTorque

Is the pot cast iron?

Mine is thin stainless, the idea being it gets stupid hot very quickly, but maybe the air is cooling it down to fast...

anyone else using the Waze app?

its kinda handy, basically its like google maps but you can update things on the the map yourself, the main advantage is you can see where there are crashes, police, speed cameras, etc

I use it on my Android Auto in the car, mainly to see traffic flow, eta and for things like crashes and speed camera. Its handy, but wouldnt bother if i didnt already have android auto running.

What’s involved with converting AC from r12 to hfc 134a? Is it quite pricey?

Just need adapters on the pump fittings.

Ideally a new dryer . Which are usually sub 100$ the expensve bit it r134a. Could be as much as 500$ depending how big the system is

Isn't there an issue with the lubricants not being backwards compatible? I looked in to it briefly for my mx5, but decided against it since it has done one non-wof-shop trip in 3 years

I was under the (misguided?) impression that the seals in an R12 system aren't compatible with 134a and will leak, and all need to be replaced with newer ones?

Not sure . Maybe they need to flush the system with something.

I know when i put a new pump on my 70 series i cleaned stuff with white spirit

A1 were quite happy to just feed r134a into an r12 system . They just feed some lubricant into the refrigerant while filling the system

I'm hoping he will chime in when he's done sniffing his lawn. I feel like he replaced the seals but can't remember now.

edit: looks like it was the o-rings, I guess because old and why not.

I have also thought about buying some old leaf batteries as cheap storage.

Bit late to leaf battery chat but this is my tactic. I got lucky and picked up a gen1 60% battery for about $400. Add $150 BMS and some tther bits and pieces and it's a very cheap 14kWh battery.

What do you need to power? Haven't done it myself but from what i've seen, if the car is "on" you can run an inverter off the 12V battery and it's charged by the main battery. If I got a bunch of power cuts i'd likely be doing that myself for critical appliances.
