Bling Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 9KG install still requires gasfitter fee, $25+GST for that piece of advice, cheers. 1 Quote
Nominal Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Just now, Bling said: 9KG install still requires gasfitter fee, $25+GST for that piece of advice, cheers. Gasfitter came to check our hob, ended up having to replace regulator and relocate the gas bottle as existing install was illegal. Still waiting for the account for that one. 1 Quote

cletus Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 While rules like that seem a bit dumb especially if you're not an imbecile,  after the week I've had, there definitely needs to be someone checking that things have been done correctly. basic instructions are beyond the capabilities of a large percentage of the population 9 1 Quote
Nominal Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 They can come for you too, same with electrical work WorkSafe NZ complaint leads to prosecution of Nelson man (boinz.org.nz) 1 Quote

But, Probably best to make lead on cooktop longer as 7kw cooktop only needs 20a supply, and will probably be too small to be wired to the 32a oven supply as is. I'll do it for ya, but have to wait until after I have done barts rangehood 1 1 1 Quote
tortron Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 It has a 4 wire cable as there's 2 control boards in it. But the two wires can be bridged and connected to 240v as one. (Shown in the manual as ok as 4 or less elements) I ran an AI SIMULATION and wired it up as I drew it and it was happy with all 4 elements at full crank, during a short test at least  If I cut an access hole in th3 back of the drawer and use a mirror and hold myntounge just right,I can wire it directly but bugger that  Quote

Plenty of people think they are smart enough to do it though and they end up killing (innocent to the install) people. It just doesn't make the news. Not directed at anyone, but generally people who say they can do it because it's easy are the ones who should not be touching it. It applies to all trades really, every diddle-fingers think they are smarter with zero education. Ignorance is bliss till a kid suffocates in your DIY'd shower install. As you say too, too many imbeciles out there really. 4 1 Quote

87creepin Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Applies to farming too, if that’s considered a trade I drive a bit out in lifestyle block new areas, so many gates left open, wandering lambs, toy dogs etc on the road. Nice decorative fences that don’t keep livestock in. 2 Quote
gibbon Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 I pulled the lower control arms on the Mazda as the rear bushings were torn. Pressed the old bushings out without paying attention to the fact that the inner bores are a slotted shape rather than concentric. Is there a standard orientation for the slots? Quote
waspman Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 I have three old 1920's lights that I found amongst my old man's hoard, I have been thinking of recycling them as down lights above my bench/bar leaner in the garage (haven't built the garage yet so might be jumping the gun a bit) was thinking of getting a sparky to wire them up to take LED's, is this a possible idea? Any hints of how to approach it before I talk to a sparky? Quote
ThePog Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I have built a big waste oil burner, but it isnt getting to the self perpetuating roar stage, I am not quite sure why not. It lights/runs/draws but just never gets quite hot enough to really start cranking. I have thought about installing a wee oil splash plate that is small enough to get proper hot and flash off the oil...? Has anyone got an opinion? 1 Quote
AllTorque Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 This is the oil burner at work. I didn’t build it, but it goes hard. Maybe your neck is too long and skinny? 1 Quote
ThePog Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Yea thats interesting. I made it long so that I could potentially have more air input if I needed it. Also my chamber is pretty big in comparison, but I want a copper coil in there so it wants fo be that diameter, I could make it shorter..... Quote
