on the merge collector ,re the extractors are you going to use springs there for a slip joint Ā and also further down i use a flexy joint ,or it will break some where

The slip joint merge collector I have on them is real tight I don't know if I'll actually be able to get it off so was thinking about just welding it on to seal it.

I've heard mixed reviews of using flexy joints.. Havnt got one for it so if it ends up breaking I'll look at putting one in.

Wicked build, just started researching to do an escort build myself,

Just wondering how nesassary and what your reasoning to make more clearance for the diff on the chassis rails?

I like the ride height but do you think it could be done without modifying the rails?

What are your plans for it?

Ā

Decide now before you begin. Have you got a budget? Cause if its anything like mine was youll need to double or triple it.

Ā

Ā

If you use 13" wheels you will save endless amounts of time, money, and frustration. But depends what you want... In hindsight i can see what each decision cost in the long run and some small decisions end up costing big money to fix and you wont realise at the time.

Ā

The chassis notch was a result of using 15" wheels. At my ride height the diff tubes would be eating into the original chassis rails/impossible.Ā

I've started looking for the right shell to start with, I want to be able to do street sprints and a little track work, I'll be aiming mods at handling and I want to do a 4 link and watts/panard setup for sure. I think I want to be able to register it on the road so need to keep mods aimed around that.Ā

Im not sure I'll cage it, but thinking steel bubble arches and upgraded diff and yes 15's.

Ā

Im not sure what rules/laws there are around chopping up chassis rails and keeping it street legal, this is why I was asking if you could do it with out having to notch them. Now that you have done it I was wondering how much clearance it has when the diff is at its highest point

Ā

I'll do most of the work myself apart from the final panel and paint, I was an apprentice panel beater for 3 years so I got pretty good at rust repairs, just my finishing was never that good.

Ā

It'll be a slow build, my last build was a 300hp wrx coupe that blew way out of control so I know how that goes. Ā

All depends on what height you want to run it.

15s will either mean it looks somewhat like standard escort height once lowered if you use off the shelf escort parts, or if you want it real low a multitude of suspension geometry modifications and custom bits being diddled around to work. Especially if you want decent handling and cert.

I'm trying to finish up my front end at the moment. It's an arse.

A wise man once said.. Put the car body at the height you want it to run at. Put the wheels and tyres you want to use underneath the body and then modify an build suspension to suit.

It's really the only way to go to get it right the first time.
