AttySlungGatty Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Since I don't know much about these vivas, I'm open to any suggestions on it. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/46063-attyslunggatty-1976-vauhall-viva/#entry1425439 Quote
nzvohc Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Good to see your car on here Aaron. Look forward to seeing what you do with it. I'm going to get in here before Alex and tell you to upgrade to a nice torquey 2300 OHC unit! You know it's the right thing to do... 1 Quote
CUL8R Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Nice car indeed! What're your plans for it? Quote
77magnum13hundy Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Yay another viva... looks tidy. On the point of suggestions, if your keen to tackle the rust (if its got any or not), the main areas to check are under the door sills, rear wheel arch's, under the battery in the engine bay and the bottom edge of the window right where that black paint is. A good idea would be to get some fish oil in a can from stupercheep and put some in the nooks and crannies to prolong its life a little. Sweet ol cars to cruise in... enjoy 1 Quote
AttySlungGatty Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 I'm hoping to get a nice paint job on it in same colour because I like the green, put a bigger motor and better running gear in cause the 1300 is nice to cruise in 50km areas but not really what I want. Fix up interior (would like dark brown leather seats) and put in a good sound system. But me being a student is going to make it a really slow process. Quote
igor Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 V8. Go on. You know you want to. With an aluminium block (I'm thinking Buick/Rover, maybe something Japanese) you might find you don't even need to change the front suspension setup. Insurance could be an issue though. Quote

Got to say I like the sound of v8 but just think they too heavy for what I want. I like going round corners fast rather than a straight line. Though wouldn't mind going for a Jap 2L or v6 when money is more available. Quote
kyteler Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I like going round corners fast rather than a straight line. You do realise you bought a Viva, right? 3 Quote
yoeddynz Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 You do realise you bought a Viva.. Ooooooohhhhhh that's a gauntlet there. On the ground. Right in front of us viva owners! Quote
yoeddynz Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I'm going to get in here and tell you to downgrade to a heavy 2300 OHC unit! You know it's the right thing to do... Those old piles of poo... Don't do it! 1 Quote
yoeddynz Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Glad to see you throwing some rust prevention at this because its such a solid car- well worth keeping that way! Are you still saving your pingas for an engine swap? Quote

Are you still saving your pingas for an engine swap? Trying but don't think I'll make enough money for that so I'm just focusing on small things at the moment. Quote

AttySlungGatty Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 Cheers Alex for the chat and for taking me in the imp. Very impressive what you have done with it and definitely gave me more motivation now with mine 1 Quote
yoeddynz Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Now your can garner some advice from folks on this forum about mx5 stuff because there's loads of experience among some of the others on here. I'm not really that clued up on mx5s. Or perhaps a subaru boxer engine swap? Convert a 4wd box to rwd only? Quote
