And the award for most ridiculous gear box mount goes too .....

Not the prettiest mount in the world, but it seems to work.

I also managed to get around 5-10mm of clearance around the sway bar, by making the box mount higher, by adding shims under the engine mount covers, and by pulling the whole shebang forward a bit.

I also hope to find a shorter alt belt, so I can adjust the alt away from the steering joint, as its a bit close,

Half way through re wiring the whole thing too, as it was done lol'able badly. Just need to finish the wiring, and hang the turbo, then its off for rust repairs.

I'm home sick, so another lack luster update. I got a shorter alt belt, so that now has clearance from the steering doofer. Because I lifted the motor up and forward ever so slightly, i've had to redo the front and rear sections of the exhaust to stop it touching shit, but its all fitted now. I double heat wrapped the first section of down pipe, so it looks like its touching the chassis, unsure if cert man will like that or not. I also had to weld in another bung for the wide band sensor, as its 18mm, and Nissan uses girly little 12mm sensors.

All snugly wrapped:

The turbo is all on and hooked up, had to buy some of them fancy little fittings to make the water and oil lines work, OMG they are pricey little bastards, 3 tiny fittings came to $100, screw using big ones all over the show like people do.

Black gold:

I decided to replace all the silicon joiners, as most of them were poked/hacked up. I wanted black, as I don't like the blue ones, but ended up with pink, shit looks hawt. Also had to make an alloy filter holder, to gain some length.

The other job I ticked off was the speed-o drive bush, knocked this up at work, and then bunged it in, LIKE A GLOVE.

^ I have six cans of de-greaser ready to go to town on the underside of this thing, so ewwey.

Currently working on shorter sway bar links, seat mounts, and wiring. Hope to have it running in a week or so.

Now that i'm not working on the Turdsmell weekly, I find I have time to enjoy the better things in life, like working on my grotty Hilux. I made up the little doubler plates needed for one seat bolt, hopefully they pass, as I had to put the little bolts perpendicular the the center line of the car for space and floor shape reasons.

IMG_20150524_105910982_zpsfmarhzol.jpg

I also made up new intercooler pipes, as the old ones were shitty, and no longer fitter.

And this afternoon my lovely brother in law came over and sorted out the wiring. It now has a million less wires, and is wired properly, it was amazing it even ran before. We also discovered that the positive wire to the valve timing solenoid wasn't even connected, so the VTEC wasn't even kicking in, LAME. After we got that sorted, we fired it up.

Seems to run legit. Fuel pump is a shit ton quieter than before, and the exhaust note sounds much more manly/drainpipeish. So next on the list of things to do is tidy and tape all the wiring, and then send it off to the panel beaters.

Still have many small things to do , but its not far away from going to fail its cert!

I'm supporting our ozey brothers rather than the communist Chinese. Yeh, I'm all about hose and clamps when they fit, had to use them fittings due to space though.

have seen a couple of the china ones split if that makes you feel any better.

FAIL

So Hellux failed, but not by much! Have a small list of fairly minor things to sort, which shouldn't take long, and more importantly should cost stuff all.

So the seat belt buckles were bolted to the seats, which meant a whole bunch of extra rules applied around the mounting of the seat, so I thought I would just simply bolt the buckles to the factory mounting points on the body. WRONG.

IMG_20150802_121206995_zpsgybbzout.jpg

Turns out it has no holes/nuts, had a bench seat it did, which seemed odd for an SR5, but guess it was an option or some shiz. So I made up another set of doubler plates for the belts, as seen below,

WRONG. The eagle eyed of you, will notice that I welded std M12 nuts to them, they have to be metric fine. Bugger. So I need to change these. Thankfully I got the seat ones rite, so they are all gravy.

He also wasn't happy with the floppy material buckle storks, so I have to change them to cable ones.

It has to have an engine check light, which I think is slightly odd?

Needs a fan shroud, which makes sense.

Have to slightly change the front drive shaft loop, easy.

And then I just have to take pics of all the doubler plates and hoop mounts that are under the carpet/seats inside the vehicle, and its done.

And here's a pic of the old girl in all her hideous glory, ready to set sail for a fail.

Grott.

WELL THEN, this piece is all ready to go for its recheck in two days. The following has been done to achieve a high standard of certification:

Fan shroud, there's not a lot of room in there, so ended up going for the minimalist look, good enough hopefully.

IMG_20150905_132048510_zpsrkh2oeab.jpg

Cable spec seat belt stalks, found a set in a Navara which were exactly what I wanted.

IMG_20150905_132120866_HDR_zpsf2kybezb.j

Engine check light, found the dash had a few unused spots (4WD and seat belt light) so scraped the picture of the seat belt off the little plastic doofer, until it was clear. Printed the words "CHECK ENGINE" with a label maker on clear tape, applied to clear section of plastic, filled in around the edges with a sharpie (the choice of street magicians everywhere) and then glued a bit of red plastic from a civic dash in under it, to give it that warning light glow. Even wired it into the ECU, full legit spec. (Looks really good IRL spec, not so much in the below pic)

I also re-did the seat belt doubler plates with metric fine nuts, and modified the front drive shaft loop to make it churerer.

While I was tinkering, I decided to fix a few other problems. Home made catch can, husky drink bottle, gear box breather, old motorbike rego holder bracket, and a few pipe fittings.

IMG_20150820_185952786_zpsbbl278qb.jpg

Changed the clutch slave cylinder as it was poked. New item is aluminum rather than cast, light weight race spec, OMG.

IMG_20150905_170816308_zpsy5ek2u9a.jpg

I decided to work out where the gearbox was leaking from, turns out it had a bung gasket. This was letting oil out, but more pain in the assedly, let water in when I water blasted under the ute, so have to change the oil now.

IMG_20150907_152659615_zpsfwtcfh9b.jpg

While I had the shifter out, I decided to lengthen it, as it was lol'able short (though factory, so S14's must have deep tunnels?) so I found a bolt, cut the end off it, drilled a hole up it, and welded it to the OG shifter. Much more farm/Hilux spec now, and way betterer to drive with.

IMG_20150908_104656468_zpsazvpvi2e.jpg

And that's it. Hopefully it has a cert by Friday.

Regards, VG.
