Popular Post yetchh
Had a crack at pulling the ding out of the roof without pulling the headlining out.. I bought one of those little 45mm suction cups from supercrap, they, are, shit. Couldn't even get any suction on a flat pane of glass let alone a flat panel. Decided to try the hot glue technique and initially it was shit too as it would barely hold on, then I discovered I had to warm the panel that it was sticking to as well now it sticks like shit to a blanket.. Had one more go doing it with the sca sucker and managed to pull half the ding out but that was it. That thing is shit. Welded a nut to a washer and glued that on, then screwed some threaded rod into it and made a rudimentary slide hammer. Works good but I ran out of time. This is the ding, have no idea how it got there it just "appeared" when I got it out of storage. This shot is obviously when I stripped it. And this shot is after I hit it with the strip disc. I did manage to push some of from the inside but the rest is to far up inside the structure to get to without removing the lining, not to keen on that. Today's effort, the bigger ring of glue is the attempt with the shit sucker. This is the first attempt with the washer that I heated up and melted into the existing glue, first pull definitely moved it but it takes 10min each time you reapply as you have to wait for everything to cool down. Works pretty well tho, I'll have another crack at it tomoz. 23
yetchh
Had a bit of time to spend on this so I did a couple of rust repairs, 1st was a couple of holes in the pass A pillar, there's a bit of an issue I discovered above and below this this in the wiper plenum and floor which is gonna take some figuring but I'll start with this, Cleaned up as best I could in there and got some rust kill, primer on it, most of what you see there is rust from the cut piece, gonna fill it with cavity wax eventually..
Popular Post yetchh
Second was the first of a couple I need to do on the shit passenger rear 1/4, Ding coupled with a shit hole for holding the trim, they screwed right through to the tub on the other side so I plugged up that hole too, Had a small delay whilst test fitting the patch and dropped it through down into the sill about here, Took me fucken ages to try and get it out, thank god for dad's veterinary tools Not to fussed about these repairs, my panel work isn't good enough to replace the arch as needed so I'll just settle for getting rid of the rust and shit bits for now/ever.

Popular Post yetchh
Did some more stuff.. The shit panel that keeps on giving.. Both the outside boot corners were rusted when I first did the car way back when, they are the reason the tyre well had/has rusted (if anyone has some sort of old mazda parts hookup where I can find some sort of replacement that would be great. Started this one 4 years ago but finished it the other day.. This was actually the second attempt at getting it on which I did today, for some reason my plug welds weren't penetrating.
Popular Post yetchh
Since I finished that I decided I might as well start the other side.. Took 1/35thou of the time the other side took.

Popular Post yetchh
This bits always irked me, the panels of a s1/s2 rx4 and not a s3 929/rx4. The rx4 has a moulded bumper that curves up at the ends vs the 929s flat bumper with an infill panel. Why they didn't just fill in the panel there instead of putting in the infill panel I don't know, it won't sit flat on the left hand side but gets held out by the different steel work there.. Anyway pics.. Original shape, Rx4 shape (with my cut line obviously) Bit rough but it's totally covered, just for my ocd really. I only get three hours down here every 2nd day, gonna endeavour to come down every day until the lockdowns lifted. Gotta at least get some things done on my list.
Popular Post yetchh
Stripped the rest of the drivers side today after having a bit of a vacuum.. Found a couple of issues, nothing difficult.. This one I knew about, This is from where the guard sat, should just be able to rust kill it..
yetchh
Welded up the rest of the patches this arvo.. Find this other bit of rust, Also found a hole I remember from when I was driving it, the door stay popped off and punched a hole in the a pillar. Just filled it with weld..
Popular Post yetchh
Other bits.. There was no other rust behind this so I just patched it, the rust was from dirt and moisture stuck in the trim that goes there.. This and the other side are a result of the seal that suits there, I'll make sure to put extra protection there before they go back on.. Almost out of gas, luckily I've done all the repairs that are going under paint except for the rear window trim mount. Need to drill out the spot welds and make sure there's no rust around, other repairs I have to do are in the fresh air plenum and the floor below that bit.. Just gotta prep for paint now.. Edit* and pull out that fucking ding...
yetchh
Pulled the rest of the ding out this morning.. Fuck that method works well, def trade again.
Popular Post yetchh
End result.. Before After Could do with some minor shrinking and more localised pulling, but over all I'm pretty happy with that result..
Popular Post yetchh
Glad I took this bit off, some nasties in there that would no doubt make themselves known down the track further.. Gave it a good stripping, gonna treat all of the bare steel with phosphoric acid and scotch brite before I paint, I'll prime this bit first then weld the strip back on over it. Also cut another hole to try and access the hard to reach bit. Have come up with a plan to cut it out. Might need some more gas first. Lots of surface rust under there. No where near as much on the other side. I think it stems from the fact that there is a little drain in the windscreen frame that should have a piece of hose on it. It's there on the other side but not this side. Might have to coat it all liberally in fish oil once I'm done..
Popular Post yetchh
This is how the car has been sitting for the last week and a half.. So this morning I went down there and got busy rust proofing and scotching and prepsoling. And masking.. 11
