Ive seen plenty of Holden Rockers go like that. They really are rubbish.

New motors that have sat for any length of time before being started are a problem. Good Luck with getting it sorted!!

so had a quick moment over the Anzac weekend.

didn't really achieve anything except tidying up around the garage where I keep the car , sorted and arranged tools and various other bits.

one part that I bought 6 months ago that was a bit of an impulse buy , I didn't need it but I wanted it was a chin spoiler for the WB series.

@dr.wyldeBefore you pull the motor to bits, a quick and dirty way to check the cam timing is to get TDC on the change over and both valves should be open the same amount or close to it. Also are you running enough initial timing factory is 6 degrees, the old 308 I had with a mild cam in it was much happier at 12 degrees. You will need to stop the total advance at about 36-38. Also do you have the vacuum advance connected?

that was the plan , wind it over on the rock and see if the valves are even.

I ran 12 degrees originally with no vac advance , but when I had the vac advance rebuilt I dialed back the distributor to 8 degrees .

total advance is 34

and when it has run well , this is where I've had it .
