been carrying on stripping down the cab to get it ready for paint removal, removed both screens (no rust in there), mostly removed all the interior, finished pulling all the carpet and material that was glued to floor and firewall (no rust found there either), just few fiddly bits to go like removing chrome trims from dash and wiring loom ect, drivers door came off easy with impact driver but passengers not so much got 3 or so bolts that won't budge the slightest left them to soak up some more crc like spray hopefully it helps free them up or the drills coming out

Finished stripping the cab of everything tonight, everything is phillips head and rusty/underseal(tar like) so there was a bit of drilling going on and winding the left overs out with vice grips, managed to get the loom out leaving everything still attached so hopefully not too much guess work when putting it back in, theres a few modified sections thats going to need re-doing, passenger door cab hinge bolt/phillips head counter sunk screws were absolute bitches to get out 10 came out with the impact driver but ended up drilling out two and managed to get out the remains of one but going to have work out some plan to get out the other theres just not quite enough meat there to get a grip on it, started hitting under the passenger guard of the cab with wire brush, and had a wee go at the floor but the underseal is almost like tar and kind of comes of but sort of just gets pushed around, any sweet tricks out there to remove this?? I've hit a couple of sections to get the worst off then going to see if prepsol will get the left over layer off. theres a few hours/days of quality time with the grinder/wire brush ahead!

haven't got much done while the weathers been so awesome! but really need to get some more progress underway, have started to look around at a couple of panel beaters to fix up the rust in the cab i don't really have the time or patience to do it myself, in the meantime I've started stripping back a panel at a time starting with a guard.

post-9567-0-07401600-1422615484_thumb.jpg

I'm almost keen to strip the entire thing back to bare metal and just have it like that for awhile and not worry about panel beating and just use that clear primer, could get it on the road a bit quicker and just use it for awhile and then panel and paint it down the track.

making some more progress with well side started bare metalling the left hand side, bit of bog was hiding in there but its not to bad pretty happy really, after i have finished stripping the sides ill flip it back over and paint the inside and get it bolted on, might make a new loom to duck down the chassis for the fuel tank and lights, love how simple these things are

finally got some motivation to get back into this so stripped the well side back to bare metal and removed the old plain tailgate and got the mazda embossed one on

post-9567-0-86590700-1428135495_thumb.jpg

i stripped all the sides back to bare steel and cleaned up the inside of the tray and painted it all black

post-9567-0-52441100-1428135682_thumb.jpg

the new tailgate has no hooks on it and it looks way more cleaner in my opinion so i removed them (they were in bad condition to and had started to get rust hole in the tips)

post-9567-0-54476000-1428135830_thumb.jpg

then i etch primed all the bare metal to seal it off, all in all its not in to bad condition some areas need a bit of attention to try straighten up or it may be easier to make up some new pieces to stitch in

need to strip the tailgate next, also bench seat is almost finished getting upholstered looking forward to getting that back

so this turned up today, i had started to lose motivation in the ute with how bad the cab was to repair and was struggling to find another one solid enough to justify buying and carrying on with, then I came across this its a rolling body but was running a 12a, so i brought with the plan to swap the cab and well side onto my chassis. i forgot to take photos until i had already got it onto the hoist but its been panelled and painted at some stage and has the jap well side, and more to the point no rust,

so i got stuck into it after work and have disconnected all the wiring, brake lines, handbrake ect and started raising the cab off the chassis ready to roll it out and roll mine under.

not much progress on the ute week gone been busy getting rid of all the bits i didn't need, have made some progress in getting bits i need.

-have some brake hoses on the way

-also cleaned up a spare set of axles and got rid of left hand thread and changed to sealed bearings ready for lsd courier/bounty nugget with a lower ratio to go in (that combined with 5 speed should be nice cruising at 100)

-also this is ready to go in after sorting out sound deadening and carpet (thinking of going autodec? anyone else used them?)

post-9567-0-69862200-1433650408_thumb.jpeg

-then need some door cards done to match

have also got a new battery, thinking of mounting it in the tray as its had the battery holder removed from the inner guard and was running a motorbike battery behind the seat but i would rather have a decent sized battery and had a battery box laying around.

also have a new carpet on its way from autodec looking forward to putting that in along with the bench seat.

looking into getting a new radiator or get the old one re-cored as its pretty rotten.

been chipping away at this when i can, have got the lsd nugget in after giving it a paint also had to trim the right hand axel to make it work with the lsd,

also put one of the reset leaf springs in I'm guessing they have been reset approx 2" will need to see how it sits combined with the 2" blocks if its too low i can trim the blocks down to suit, now need to finish getting brakes back together and sort out fuel line to the pump.

Carpet has also arrived looks pretty good also got some under felt to help it sit nice, will get onto to putting that in after the well side is back on for good.

got the exhaust manifold back on and fitted the new alternator, so many little jobs yet to do

Got the well side back on now after tidying up the fuel pump and gauge sender unit wiring, also bleed up the brakes after pissing fluid everywhere as one of the seals was cocked over from out of the box, sorted that and now they have bleed up and feel ok hoping they work all good with the master cylinder as it did have discs on the front and had a tandem master replacing the single and now i have gone back to drums. finished the battery box set-up tonight it was mounted behind the seat in the cab running a motor bike bat but i didn't really like it and would rather have a decent grunty battery.

I have mounted it on the passenger side at the front in the deck in one of those plastic battery boxes.

post-9567-0-29760300-1436956905_thumb.jpg

used a plastic gland where the cable came up through the deck

post-9567-0-90814700-1436956889_thumb.jpg

got the starter motor in and wired up

post-9567-0-39034000-1436956919_thumb.jpg

also have started cleaning up the carb and tossing up wether to re-kit it or wing it and see how it goes, and cleaned up the dizzy, with new points n condenser, dizzy cap, rotor, leads and plugs ect so can get that all on soon, radiator is off to be re-cored tomorrow, now that i have power i can start figuring this wiring out i won't need half of the wires the rotary set up had. need to get it down to work to get the exhaust made sometime soon to, slowly getting through the list of jobs to go now
