So the rx4 crossmember is now sorted but waiting on mounts from the crossmember to engine to be organised and fitted. We're also running the factory crossmember for further strength. SOme of the front end suspension bits have been fitted but are yet to be reconditioned or replaced (still checking clearances and what not).

The rear wheels have been test fitted on another Mazda 1200 w/the same rear end setup (however mine will be 30mm lower). Wheels sit pretty flush with the guard however guard lips will need to be rolled. Looking at running some 165/60/r14 Toyo Proxes r888 to make sure it wont be spinning all over the show.

Have also ordered replacement steel front guards due to rust (cheaper to replace than repair which is a bonus), also the left side floor pan and a Madhouse e70 corolla front lip which will probably need hacking up to fit. Rather than tidying up the standard grille, I've opted to swap it over for the 'sunken' r100/1200 so have one on order as well.

Unfortunately no pics until I get back from my xmas trip however but hopefully it will almost be on the road when I get back.

Cheers,

Tai

A lot has been happening. Was over in NZ for a month during Xmas/NYE but now back in the land of Perthstralia and stoked to see plenty of progress on the little Mazda.

First thing you guys will notice is the staunchness with the Madhouse front lip which has been cut down and mounted up, also have the 1200 grille mocked in place. The radiator is now mounted up properly but we're having issues with fitment for the oil cooler. We were going to put it behind the grille/in front of radiator but as you can see there is now room to mount the rad fan behind as there will only be a few mm clearance so have to mount it on the front. The plan is to notch a section out of the bottom half of bumper and have it hanging out a little, not really what I want but it's the only place suitable with lip fitted up but will try and tuck it in as much as possible.

The engine bay scuttle panel (I think that's what it's called) has had a new plate welded up and gussets at the bottom of the firewall are welded  up for a little reinforcement. I've also been hooked up with OG Mazdaspeed engine mounts woooooo. more ancillaries have been fitted up aswell and some bosch coils have been sourced. ECU Semi wired and mounted up in the passenger footwell by the firewall.

Lastly the front coilovers are now mounted up but awaiting the strengthening plate at the top of the mount to be welded up. Rear springs fitted and diff mocked in place. The diff gussets have been removed due to clearance issues but we're going to work around it and sort a better fitment for them.

Once the engine is sorted, next is fuel system then should be ready to fire up!!!

That's all for now. Please criticism/abuse/praise here http://oldschool.co....mps-mazda-1300/. Stoked to hear what you think.

Cheers,

Tai

More updates..

Brake and clutch masters reconditioned and fuel lines all sorted, braided and blacked out with Proflow fuek regulator and Bosch fuel pumps sorted as well. Front brake and steering setup is finished bar a hubcentric spacer which is all that's left (new hubs bearing all around as well). Rear end is pretty much sorted as well with FD RX7 calipers mounted and handbrake connected up, brake lines still need to be made however.

HT leads have had the caps sorted now as well and throttle cable is 90% sorted, just need to sort a bracket out. Driveshaft has also been shortened and is ready to be fitted.

We ended opening up the transmission tunnel to raise and square off the transmission as it was sitting on a decent tilt.

Ok time for an update..

After having on going disputes with the old shop over the last 4-5months I know have the ol' girl back and ready to get work commencing again. Safe to same I'm very relieved now that were cracking back on it to it but the issues aren't 100% sorted yet.

So a few weeks ago this happened..

And now it's sitting here with this other familiar beast..

The fuel system is now fully setup with all lines plumbed like such..

We haven't sorted a surge tank as I don't necessarily need but will probably sort one out anyway down the track.

Next on the listed is rust and body work. It turns out this has alot more rust than anticipated so we're going to sort the important stuff first. All floorpans will have new plates welded in as well as a custom transmission tunnel fabricated. The sills will also be remade as well as the front right chassis leg. Bracing will also be made by the steering setup mounts for further support as well.

Currently looking like this.

Will practically be the same as this once it's done (but with the trans tunnel blending in at the end rather than having the abrupt drop).

And this is my brothers old room which has now turned into my parts room. Will be getting rid of a lot of these. Since the issues with the old shop as well i'm also missing a bunch of parts which will need to be replaced so hopefully the process wont be too bad.

Once the rust work has been carried out next on the list will be finalising the driveline/suspension and steering setup. Items left to have all sorted:

-Rear shocks sorted (getting some adjustable konis)
-Sort and fit traction rods
-Suspension and steering bushes
-Driveshaft
-RCA knuckles made up
-Need to sort out and finish off the clutch setup (just need to sort the fork and get a new flywheel & bolts

-Re-sleeve the brake master cylinder for better feel

Once the above is sorted, the next bunch of work to look at is:

-Sorting out a breather setup
-Oil cooler lines plumbed
-Engine wired up
-Sort some HEL brake lines and bend up the bundy for the other lines
-Finalise the handbrake lines
-Get a battery

-Sort side mount for the alternator

Then lastly exhaust and she should be good to go, fire up and tune.

I have another set of wheels on order so will have a much more aggressive look soon (will need to run some flares) and will need to look into gauges as well, cheapest option being VDO or Autometer but want to get something period looking so if anyone has any advice/ideas on how to go about it let me know here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44085-tai-scamps-mazda-1300/

Thanks for looking

The rears are poking out approx 60-70mm!! Luckily there's enough inner guard clearance in the rear so no mini tubbing required there. Haven't been able to fit up the front yet as it's all apart, may need to need to minitub the front for clearance at lock but no doubt outer guard work is required.

Obviously trimming and bending required but they look the biz. Should be wide enough for the rears with a suitable tyre combo (unsure what tyre sizing at this stage). The main issue though may be clearance issues with the rear doors. May look into cutting them and bolting to the doors so I can still open them (could look bad though) but will have to wait and see when i'm at the car. Any thoughts on alternatives for fitment?

No further updates on rust work at this stage but stoked as the look is all coming together.

Thanks for looking.

Tai.
