Like how you do 'spot' welds with a mig. Didn't think of this. The hook brackets large enough to hide any of the working so could get away with a touch up job.
Flash
What about using a rivnut to solve your bonnet catch issue ? Will save you having to mess with your panels and paintwork. Might need to chuck one in the other side to level it out.

Hope this makes sense.

Hope this makes sense. Makes perfect sense thanks. I was thinking of elongating the hole on the bonnet catch to fit over the riv nut if there's enough meat. This way it'll sit flat and the washer on the screw should cover it. As beens suggested here, I'll try drilling a couple of small holes and welding the existing nut in place first. Flash
If I'd read a bit further back I would have seen that @Nominal and @rusty360had beaten me to the punch on the rivnut suggestion. Yep the tap being stuck in the now loose nut makes that a bit of a challenge but will at least help you hold the nut in place while you give it a few welds. All the best mate. Yeah feeling much better after hearing the suggestions here. The tap will make a nice earth strap too....
VitesseEFI
Find it strange going to a separate thread to comment….. also that no one has commented since May as there’s some very classy work happening here. Should get plenty of attention asbo orange Nick

cletus
Nice work on this. My first road car was an escort van so it triggers a few memories Including the time I put a 1600 in it And removed it again to put dents in the 1300 sump to clear the rod bolts And removed it again to make sure the dents were big enough because it still made a knock noise Then removed it a third time to discover the 1300 oil pickup tube is different as well and the rod bolts had been hitting that as well. Aahhh, memories.

I'll make something work out of the bits I have.

Makes a very scary noise! Nice work on the sump mod. Look waaay better than the last effort

Nominal
I guess? On my leaky ones they would only leak vacuum with the pedal depressed. Otherwise no vacuum is admitted to the diaphragm I think? I know the Mercury booster can be damaged if using engine vacuum to work the system before it's bled so watch out for that. /cross fingers and just fit it?
