RUNAMUCK
I hate most creepy crawlies/nature in genenral. But moths don't bother me one jot. The mrs screams like I've just gone backdoor un-lubed if she sees one in the house. They are the most pussy of all the bugs you'll find. I don't get why peeps be scared of them?
Stu
I have a collection of those moths that like to commit suicide by flying into the ranch slider at night - they hit with a fairly good domf noise followed by fluffle fluffle noises when they are on the ground then the cats go ape shit eating them. This is an average size one that the cats hadn't got to so I could document. Re Woodpigeons - they make a good meal.

yoeddynz
Wow! They carry a tape measure with them?!!! I wonder why? How odd. I like moths. Except when watching a movie and one insists on watching it with us but hogging the screen. When you squash them they leave powder everywhere. But I wouldnt squash such lovely beasts as above. To cool. Ive eaten plenty of Huhu grubs. Yum. Freshly roasted over a fire. Bite the head off and spit it out as its the body thats great. Hannah just went to the library on way home. As well as from the bird books and the native forest plant book she got one on greywater systems as I need to learn that stuff. Not going to have a septic tank as will be composting toilets. No black water then either. So just need to learn about reed bed systems etc for dealing with shower water etc. Will recycle most of it on to plants anyway but yeah, got ta keep council happy once they start asking. Has anyone here got any experience with designing grey water setups? Im sure I'll find way too much info on net and this book we got so far is bloody good.

yetchh
Moths are sweet.. it's huhu beetles that are cunts, flying round getting stuck in your hair and then biting the fuck out of your fingers when you try to extricate them, and if the biggest one I've seen was golden bay then marahau would prob follow suit.
Popular Post yoeddynz
I want to be like you one day old and slightly wrinkly? It'll happen.. just wait Oldmatedan- yeah Kevin loves travelling. The first trip out in the van he meowed a bit but soon settled. Now he just jumps into the van and goes straight onto the dash. As we drive through Nelson he gets up on the engine cover between the seats and sits his paws on the dash so he can look straight out front. He seems to love all the city action. He loves it when i park out the front of new world facing the windows so he can watch all the people. Once on the open road he goes to sleep between us on the engine cover. Then he wakes up when we hit the hills near the land and starts meowing within a couple of Ks from the block. gets all excited like. Cant get out quick enough and does a little lap round the cabin all excited and happy. Then expects food for his ordeals.

Popular Post yoeddynz
Ooooooh its been a while. Not because we have not been up to much but because nerdnet where we live has been too shit to load up photos. In fact it has been quite a hectic/exciting/fun/sad/drama filled last few weeks. Lets start with this photo here....That tree right there was not meant to be there. It was meant to be 90 degrees away from where it landed! It was not me or Hannah who made this epic mistake- it was actually a good friend with 30 years tree surgery experience. Whoops. Yep. Big mistake and all down to that last cut. On the bright side we now have a metric shit tonne more light where we wanted it. Sadly this was at the expense of several 40 year old Kanuka trees. Plus two weekends of cleaning up (which he had to help us with using his chipper)[/url]We do however have much firewood and 675432 pinecones ... Plus while he was up the second to last tree he felled he got a good photo of the cabin from up high.. After all that was cleared up we did some ditch digging to finish laying the shed roof storm water and telephone cable. After that was done Hannah started turning over the vege garden area.. while I started attacking this lot..Yep- Thats blackberry thriving and growing quick in the great spring conditions we have been having. Out with some Tordon spray from our neighbour and after a few hours its was looking much less happy about life... The best thing that has happened in last couple of weeks is this..."Erect a kitset shed You recently applied for a building consent, which has now been “Recommended to Grant”, an invoice for the balance of fees outstanding is enclosed. Once payment is received and cleared, your building consent documentation can be generated, your consent will then be emailed to you. Please note that applications must be uplifted within 1 month (30 days) of approval. Council is not required to grant a building consent until it receives any fees and charges fixed by it in relation to the consent (Section 49.2(a) New Zealand Building Act 2004).If you have any further queries regarding this matter, please contact your local Council Service Centre, or call the number above and ask to speak to the Duty Building Administration Officer.Yours sincerelyLynda MitchellAdministration Officer, Building Control"YAY!!!! We have been waiting for this and they dragged it out till the last day they were allowed to. We were certain that they would then turn around and ask for a geotech report etc but no. Just issued the consent. Very very happy. So these next few weeks are going to be very full on and in about a month we will be hoping to move the housetruck out there. Finally one of Kevin. He had spotted the sign for icecream while Hannah was in the store getting phone credit. He wants icecream.. but I wont allow it as its no good for his figure...

yoeddynz
Things have been moving along quite quickly in last few weeks. Its been quite a mission with phone calls everywhere and much vanning about. Missed one weekend by being over in Blenheim for NZ Vauxhall nationals- which was quite a let down as Andre would backup.. One make car clubs...dont go there. Oldschool for lyfe! Anyway- last weekend we did this... We skimmed the top off platform using laser level. Then strung out borders and dug trenchs. Putting the boxing ion has been quite time consuming and tricky as the ground is sandy/clay/granite mix that is either rock hard or flakey. We ended up having to make each post hole by driving a karatane(sp?) stake into ground and twisting it then remove dirt. rinse and repeat. I wanted to buy a augor but nothing available locally plus all too big. We got there though and with help of a laser level we hired got all the posts in the same height as reference points. ON monday we worked till it was too dark to see and almost finished the boxing. I went back on Wednesday and finished it before starting the back filling. Still have extra boards to lay on top horizontally as belt and braces extra support. Looks like big storm was gonna roll in. I think thats the one that brought snow up north later on. Now playing waiting game as our concrete suppliers try to convince the shed company that Forta ferro is an excellent alternative to steel mesh (better in fact) so the shed engineer can write a little note for council inspector be happy. Paper work and uppity engineers.... Hoping that the relevant info will come back from manufacturers in the states early next week so we can pour concrete next Friday in time for Saturday celebration bbq Very excited but nervous until council inspector has given nod to pour. I will then move this stuff over to shed thread as it will be more relevant there.
KKtrips
I have flown to Thailand and had transplanted thumbs in place of all my fingers to give this 10 thumbs up. Keep the "build thread" in here, it's lush enough for it's own thread in my opinion.
KKtrips
Also to get my bearings These 2 photos - is the second one taken from more or less where the water tank is? If I am right then that would mean the vege garden is elevated compared to the shed? It's a little deceptive in the second photo and it looks a flat slope from the vege garden to the caravan. LOL
Chris.QCR
Looking amazing !!! Really great progress . Also agree on single make car clubs ! OS all the way!!
yoeddynz
Kk- how can you pick your nose now? Yeah the vege garden is above the platform but below tank. You will see it all when you pop over for cups if tea with manu.
