Indicators all working only need to sus out reverse lights for WOF. Also need to hook up windscreen sprayers for WOF. Have traveled 160 kms with next to no problems . heater core leaks so looped that back on itself. 4 bolts that hold fan and water pump belt was loose so had to tigethen that. Have taken car to tune . runs a lot better .. Goes well when you give it shit. Seems to strangle itself when you first put foot on gas . needs new points will have another play with my electric ignition during week. If still same problem I'll have to look at getting the carbs looked at.. All in all drives good considering no wheel alignment yet . Popular Post Matteybean
Hey guys !! Seems to have been couple months since updated. Had a break down where my alternator / water pump belt snapped it had stretched lucky mrs parents werent far away n got the old man to pick up a belt from super cheap (csnt believe they had it in stock) n dropped it out to me which i replaced on the side of the road n carried on. Since then i had noticed a bearing noise which turned out to be alternator most likely the cause for the belt snap . Had my car taken into carb specalists to get the carbs looked at ... Ending up getting em rebuilt which took 3 weeks due to wrong parts . nothing available in nz etc etc etc.. After getting those rebuilt balanced n tuned car runs alot smoother Went on n replaced dizzy cap rotor and points next will be coil Got some ramflo off my mate which i cleaned up came up ok That aside ive jus been enjoying cruising around was def a long time coming !!! Heres some more pics
Popular Post Matteybean
Hey guys ! Again another slow update lol . Gee Wizz this year has gone quickly !! Unfortunately this year my partner n I are saving for a house so any progress on car has become rather slow Cars been running like a dream had an awesome time at the kemeu hotrod show last year even tho it was a hotrod show old school still got a lot of love ! Only photo I took Car didnt get used alot of new year period I spent it over in the gold Coast n bloody loved it all going well will be moving over next year to have a Crack anyway .. I decided I wanted some more power out of the car so started hunting down someone with an 18rgeu to take the efi bits off . After searching on a lot of forums I finally reached a guy in Aussie and came to an agreement so off they were sent Couple weeks later it turns up !! So I begin to label so I'd remember how to put it back together n had it taken to get acid dipped. All clean ! Brought some 460cc rx7 single feed injectors After some research I found the sr20det echaust manifold was literally 2-3mm out from the 18rg exhaust flange so brought a sr20det turbo manifold n t28 turbo... Will cut the sr20det flange off and weld a 18rg flange onto it . Auto bend sell the flanges in steel for $88 bucks. Turbo has no play but will get it looked at by a professional n rebuild it If needed. Still a few more bits needed . Link g4 atom ecu . Fuel lines suitable for e95 all the turbo plumbing etc will be slow but there's no rush ... cars off the road n rego is back on hold I had an awesome time down at old school nationals and was so fun meeting you all !! Car ran beautifully expect for battery moving and positive shorting out on radiator Lucky next to no damage just a burnt earth wire phew How engine bay currently sitting OS Nats photos ANAND +! Was fully not expecting this but the old girl won best sedan so thanks everyone Lil things like this make it all worth it Was an awesome weekend . Bit of a struggle to move around due to a work accident a couple weeks prior Haha nothing a few beers couldn't fix chur Thanks for looking
Popular Post Matteybean
Hey guys Have entered the Corona into drag day for the 1st time. really looking forward to it. Car needed a few things touched up for wof and def a new clutch ! Brought an electric dizzy n ignitor from aussie which should arrive next week. Also brought some factory fender mirrors what a score !! They look great Anyway after fluffing around with them decided it was time to get to the clutch so out with the engine Clutch was well buggered lol belongs in a museum Had a test fit while out Got a bit carried away and ended up cleaning the head, painting the block n gearbox, radiator fan surround and under sealing the whole Corona!! While taking the front wheels off I noticed a split in the flexible brake lines. It only went for wof check the same day n didn't get picked up on.. lucky I noticed it. So while I was at it I decided to both both sides just to be safe. Looks a million bucks !! Will install electric ignition during week need to get another tacho as my smith's one won't work with electric only points ignition Looking forward to a new clutch too that'll be lush Cheers
Matteybean
Hey guys So dizzy still hasn't arrived it's in country so hopefully tomorrow... I failed warrant to un even braking in the rear which I sort of figured when swapping our rear passenger was covered in diff oil.. knew it wasn't brake fluid or it would of eaten off my powder coat on rims. Unfortunately... somehow.. must of been having to much fun I had forgotten to undo one of the nuts and after smashing the slide hammer realized something must of been wrong. Slide hammer - 1 . Flange - 0 Luckily I have a spare diff here so whipped out my spare and took them both into steel surgeon manukau to get it flattened/fixed/sorted. Took off brakes to clean as were covered in diff oil. Gave me the ol boil in pot trick - I had brought all new pads and shoes before I had this on the road 5000~ km ago. Yummy. Gave the manifold a clean up as it wasn't done when carbs were built. I've removed all the emission cap on it. Picking up a piece of 6mm aluminum to blank of the holes next to my thumb. Picked up my new exedy sports clutch, pressure plate and release bearing. New ARP flywheel bolts.. unfortunately I had left my old bolt at home had nothing to compare with and turns out the one I got isn't the right size so this is on hold until tomorrow. Until then. Cheers
Matteybean
Got stuck in again today. Picked up half shafts from steel surgeon - all sorted haha so put it in and resembled the drum brakes. All ready to go for wof just need to bleed brakes. My electric dizzy n ignitor showed up !! Picked up a sheet of 6mm aluminium today and made some blanks to cover old emission holes.. they're not perfect bit more grinding n shaping could be done but they fit and will do the trick. Plan is to go efi after drag day anyway. That's all for now.
Matteybean
Hey guys Got a bit more done today was a bit of a stuggle as I was really really hung over.. but my brother needed to put his car in garage so I had to do something. Yesterday got the clutch on and motor back in place. Was a bit of a struggle to get new clutch on and aligned but got there in the end ! Didn't take a photo yet but the underside of my car looks really good now all black with clean gearbox Brought some GL4 gearbox oil and replaced that and topped up diff at same time. Driveshaft all back in place just have to put carbs back on n hope it all works haha Have some time off work for wedding this week so hopefully get it a wof by end of week all going well.
Matteybean
Another small update.. Got the motor up running changes through the gears nicely. Just need to bleed brakes and ready for wof !! The heater hoses had been annoying me for awhile so decided to tidy em up by making some out of 20mm copper. Looked at a few different options for the flow line but decided to keep it in the factory position am rather happy with the outcome !
Matteybean
Took car for a wof.. clean sheet !! Although I did fix what it had failed for back in April when I took it for a wof.. which it failed and sat in the garage for 6 months. Anyway gave it good clean n polish and brought some rego so pretty much all set for drag day ! Need to sort a throttle cable issue out. Install my eletric ignition and eletric tacho. but no big deal and take it back to carb specialist as since I've removed all the emission stuff it seems to be running rich. Bring it on ! I picked up my 18rg exhaust manifold from autobend today. You can see how close it is to the sr20det. It's out 4/5mm per port over 278mm Didn't really like the old plastic gearstick/sterio surround so got another rubber and mounted it direct to carpet looks alot tidier in my opinion going to run a Bluetooth amp so don't need a sterio. Gave her a good polish too. How she currently sits. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/42444-matteybeans-1978-rt104-corona/page-3#entry1783849 Cheers
Popular Post Matteybean
Isnt it amazing how time flies almost a year since i updated this! Its been a very busy year. Mrs n i brought our first house here in pukekohe auckland so in the mix of renovating the crap out of it i enjoyed this car during the summer until its WOF expired and put rego back on hold n put her in dry storage! Im not finished with her yet! Made it to OS drag day had an awesome day out! Made it along to some meet ups also. Fun times was had. Also finished off the interior got some front seats and a dash mat to complete its look and a front chin spoiler! Pic dump! Mind the white plumbing pipe needed wipers hooked up for wof Bootlock has since been installed! That moment i almost lost my loose taillight.. phew Kumeu hotrod show! I brought another project to keep me busy in the mean time. A 1966 prince gloria. Should be good Cheea
Matteybean
And she's back! Started first pop too! I literally had taken the cover of her and drove maybe 5km to a friends because the front right brake piston appeared to be stuck and the brake was smoking. still bloody clean for being under a cover for 10 months in a shed! Took the wheel off and inspected managed to unstick itself so I continued to drive home with no further problems Ok so plan is to test fit some flares see how they look, the guard gap has always annoyed me a little so I would get something to try bring that down a little. I dont want to change the wheels, and lowering it anymore will just be a pain to drive. I would like to get some arches made up from steel but I dont want to go down that road yet. Something like this looks much more appealing to me though.. Once in the garage I inspected further. The front rotors were not in the best shape and finding a replacement was a no go so checked the width and all was ok to get skimmed. I also brought new ceramic brake pads. At the 2016 drag day I had a casualty and lost one of the clips that held my ramfloe filters on. I was lucky enough to find a good condition replacement its the one on right even has its tag Another minor problem that had started up just before putting into storage was a squeak after 3000 rpm sounded like a slipping belt/bearing. I removed the viscous fan as I had suspected the fan bearing was the problem which it was! 200 odd bucks for a new one wowee!! Got one sent from a mate for free will put on this weekend. Popular Post Matteybean
Hi all Been busy with home renovations so the corona got put on the back burner. I installed the viscous fan which works well. Got the corona a warrant and being her 40th year it was only 24 odd bucks for 6 months rego awesome! Ive brought some 50mm flares so ill test fit and see how i like em. I also blacked out the head light surrounds and grille i had. I rather like it.
Matteybean
Hey guys! So my polyurethane Ebay special flares turned up they are 50mm wide and 70mm long which hide the guard gap nicely. Would most likely run them black. Do they look silly attached to the end of the arch as apposed to sitting over the whole factory arch? Or do look the bees knees?? I have another diff which is 20mm wider each side which id run with rear flares Discussion.
Matteybean
Long awated update. You all no i didnt end up running those flares and on sold them to never be tempted to do it again. Also brought the ms65 crown so this got put back in storage again. Fast forward 5 months and its 6pm 7th December @dave123456789 and i were ripping into a box of codys and thought fuck it lets take the Corona to drag day so gave it a service and gave everything a once over even managed to give her a wash. Beaut. Drag day was very enjoyable once again unfortunately i snapped an axle on the 5th pass and had to have it towed back into storage. Apologies for not saying goodbye she was loaded up n we were off! Thanks to whoever took these photos i do believe its more than one. Pic dump R I P Warrant n reg expired this week so back on hold. Ive only got a single garage so this will have to wait until crown is on the road. Surely by drag day 2019! Cheers
Matteybean
And shes back home again.. a year later than expected but better late than never. Snapped an axle at drag day 2018 and been in storage since then. AA plus membership makes moving cars very easy would trade again. Ahh yep thatll do it. Plans now are to swap the diff over with my spare.. which will mean the wheels will poke out 20mm more, raise the car slightly so its atleast legal height. The rear leaves have been reset twice so they dont work as they are intended too. I've got a spare set of leaf springs so I'll add one in to stiffen up and lower to required height using lowering blocks.
Popular Post Matteybean
Drag day was awesome as per usual.. couldnt stay as long as I had wanted but that's what happens when you bring your 1yo daughter with ya! Anyway that sparked some motivation and today I got stuck into the Corona. I pulled the spare diff and leaf springs from out under the house, they were dirty so I gave em a clean up.. as you do Taa daa When I pulled the leaf springs out I noticed something different.. ha the top leaf has been flipped prob be just about right as is no need to reset or I'll be in the same boat again So I cleaned the leaf springs too The ones I was running were reset twice and would be inverted under load. I did the same test with the other ones before cleaning em up and felt better/stiffer Crazy how the metal all twists like this All back In and leaf/diff mounts all buttoned back up. I'll grab a couple wheel cylinders tomorrow I believe the drivers side has developed a weep. Much betterer Dummy fitted the wheel to see how it fits. Popular Post Matteybean
Update time! Took the corona for a wof and it just failed on minor shit horn not working, wiper blades worn and rear tyres stick out further than guards so pretty happy with that. Then not long after a 18rgeu supercharger kit came up on Facebook that a mate of mine sent me the link, turns out it's out of Josh's car (blowncorona) here on oldschool! The deal was too good to pass up so I snapped at it and just want to say a massive thanks to the guys who helped get it up here via wagnats I really appreciate that! Sc12 supercharger, all the piping, belt tensioner, throttle body and air filter He was only making 3.5 psi with this setup. 120mm crank pulley, 125mm sc pully Went for a stroll around pick a part and found a pulley on the ground in the correct diameter I'm I'm after- 135mm with the correct PCD and centre hole! Score! Just had to remove the pressed circle in middle and good to go! This should see me good for 9/10psi Theres that sorted not bad! Next was onto the intake! Being a carburetor it didnt have the half moon at the top of the intake ports for the injector so I carefully die grinded in the half moons at the correct angle the injectors sit. Now unfortunately when I got the 18rgeu efi setup ages ago the guy I bought it off gave me the wrong thermostat housing and the carburetor housing interferes with the fuel rail. I looked for an 18rgeu efi thermostat housing without any luck so decided to modify mine - using an aftermarket ecu I'll only need 1 water temp sensor so I die grinded out abit of the thermostat housing where it interfered. I didnt want to take out more than I needed too theres couple mm clearance and i can remove the rail without taking the thermostat housing off so that's a win! Modified my electric dizzy from 4 tooth to 1 Brought a link g4+ atom ecu, 2.5bar map sensor, can lambda wideband, air intake sensor and water temp sensor. I've never wired up a car so this will be interesting! Brought a surge tank and external pump this will be filled by a low pressure lift pump Got some rx7 460cc high impedance injectors. Theres are a direct swap and have the correct spray pattern for a 2 valve per cylinder motor. I sent them to injector tech for a service and got them back nice and clean with new o rings ready to go. Turbosmart 80p fuel pressure regulator And here's what ya all been waiting for the supercharger all mounted up! I'm going to run water/meth injection and do away with an intercooler. This will help keep intake temps down giving more dense air aswell as detonation suppression and the added octane from methanol is a win win. Looking at either the AEM or snow performance kits. The eagle eye among you will see the charger intake interferes with the radiator top hose so I cut it back for now to fit the charger its 32mm copper so I'll put 2x male female bends that will offset it down and to the left towards the housing missing the piping. The intake has an incline so it raises above the thermostat housing so itll all sneak under it. Exciting times ahead. Tell me how I'm going to blow my motor up in the discussion thread Thanks for looking 23
Popular Post Matteybean
Took off my 3 ribbed crank pulley and swapped it over to a single. They are the same and line up I set up my laser to line up the pulleys. The pulley I got from pickapart is 5 rib and sc12 is 4 rib so I lined it up with the outside 4. Unfortunately because of level 3 lockdown I wasn't able to play the take 5 trips to repco to get the correct length belt but I've used some string to get it pretty close - there's also a lot of adjustment in the custom belt tensioner for the supercharger pulley. Anyway since they've announced level 2 tomorrow I'll go and get that sorted. In the meantime I modified my radiator top hose to miss the charger intake. I decided to go to the left then another on a slight angle I did this so I can still use the factory shroud which I plan to fold up some sheetmetal with tabs and install my electric fan into it. I will also pick up a new radiator hose tomorrow since original one was an S I cut it to test fit and it will work. I pressure tested the radiator and no leaks. I also found an 18rgeu efi thermostat housing so I'll swap it out with the one I modified. Next will be sort out my electric fan into the shroud, chuck the belts back on, weld air intake temp bung to the bottom side of the charger intake right before the throttle body and re assemble everything.
Popular Post Matteybean
Throttle positioning sensor! The one that was being used was a Bosch variable tps out of a BMW e series so I went to pickapart and grabbed one! I had to flip the throttle body housing as the accelerator cable bracket fouled with the bonnet tensioner bracket I was able to carefully trim the tensioner bracket back a bit and new insert for the spring to sit in. There was a grub screw on end of throttle body where the D went into the tps so I rotated it around 180 degrees as well now everything shuts properly. Hooked up the speedo cable while I was there too. Cheers for looking
