ajg193
So the black plates are on. Not too sure what I think about them, I quite liked the look with the white plates. Will see how it goes for a while. Looks almost as if I made the writing a little big
ajg193
Drove down to Christchurch from Auckland yesterday. Car went well, stopped off and visited the GCs at Olds Cool Autos in Palmy North. Used ~6.1 L/100 km of fuel and absolutely no oil on the trip. I call that a win Always fun when you are driving along at 2 AM and a cop car comes up behind you with lights flashing and all and then just over takes you. And the boat guys were playing with the lifeboats
ajg193
These finally arrived. Will put them in tomorrow, along with new shocks
ajg193
So new shocks, top mounts, lower control arms, brake fluid and water pump (old one looked like brand new inside) are all done now. Took car for wheel alignment yesterday, the LCAs really threw the alignment out (10-12 mm toe in each side (~2 degrees a side)). Mr wheel alignment man said the car was a minter/he loves starlet sprints/I'm onto a winner and I should hold onto it. /Pics for Mr. Fred Hopefully these Taiwanese LCAs last the test of time. Don't really want to have to change them in a hurry.
ajg193
Passed WoF. Looks like they entered the date wrong for previous WoF, could have gotten an extra two days out of it... EDIT: Hmm, looking at my previous WoF sheets my front brakes have lost a lot of power in the last two years. Used to be up at 200%. Might look into new pads or something at some point.

Gave the car a service the other day, new oil,new filter, valve clearances set, manifold bolts tightened, new gearbox oil (Castrol VMX 80W) - this stuff is like the finger of god!Car runs beautifully at the moment, I wonder how long that will last Also finally have some wall art

ajg193
#WARNING MASSIVE UPDATE AHEAD# /Not really But yeah, after two years of searching I finally have a somewhat presentable front bumper on my car. The new bumper is 32 years old and has traveled three times the distance of the car so it's not in perfect condition but it is definitely a lot better than the original.

ajg193
Decided I may as well get a valuation done for insurance purposes for once: I may have to increase the amount my car is insured for... Also, the few little dings near my fuel filler are gonna come out on Wednesday and I'm looking at getting some seat covers made up for the front seats.

ajg193
Passed WoF today, in celebration I finally got around to greasing the brakes. Now to start the hunt for a TRD U-Code LSD head for it.
ajg193
Pointless update as per usual, but it's the car's 32nd birthday today. Happy birthday old girl, you've been busy over the last few years, working multiple 20 hour shifts and getting stuck in snow storms and all. You've even had to have some cancer surgery, but you're pretty healthy now. I'll dump these pictures here.
ajg193
I've been doing a little hoarding recently.... I reckon I have enough slant front brochures to see me through to the new year now. I also got around to sorting out the annoying 'ting' in my front suspension, turns out that the insert retaining nut was a little loose on the drivers side. Seems good now.
ajg193
So I spent a week running a camp for little kids so I couldn't drive my car. Had a play with the 3D printer and this popped out: It's painted pretty roughly, I haven't painted anything that small since I was the age of the kids (and I was painting it at 11 PM after spending all day running around after the kids).. I should probably get some sandpaper and bog or something to make it look nicer. I never realised what a luxury it was to drive a fully mechanical car until I had to drive the rubbish modern CRV/transit vans on the camp. ajg193
Did a little bit of interior decorating, still looking for a knitting magazine though. And maybe a box of tissues.
Popular Post ajg193
Took the car down to Milford Sound/Bluff over the last two days. 1700 km in 36 hours and the only issue was yesterday morning when the carburetor iced up when leaving Milford, switched to "Winter Mode" and the engine started back up. Averaged 6.4 L/100 km with two people, equipment and open windows, going the speed limit the majority of the time. This cheeky little bugger had a go at eating my car:
ajg193
Decided to give the wheels a little tidy up, not going for a mirror finish or anything as they have to look/be used, also the centre caps can't really be tidied up. Managed two wheels this afternoon, They're a bit of a bugger as they aren't clear coated from factory - they appear to be anodized, making for a lot of elbow grease.... Hopefully by this time tomorrow I should be rollin' on dubs. Also resprayed the driver's side front guard the other day. I'll put up a picture once I have polished it a bit.
ajg193
Had Toyota Festival last weekend. Alternator is making some pretty nasty sounds (ticking) when under load now so I'm going to have to pull that apart as soon as possible and put some new bearings in. This must be pretty much what the 90's looked like (it's a shame I wasn't paying any attention to cars in the 90's...): Here's a pile of pictures from the event: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154072541147049.1073741835.618967048&type=3
ajg193
It seems the project section is becoming nothing but Starlets.... Anywho, I started pulling stuff apart today. Alternator is in bits, new bearings ready to go in, waiting on some brushes as it turns out the old ones were on their last legs. Gearbox is off, bearings have a fair bit of play again.... Surely bearings should last more than two years? I'm gonna leave them for now. Clutch is off, turns out the reason it wasn't slipping is that it is pretty much like new, I feel pretty bad about putting a new one in. Doing rear main seal tomorrow (old one is starting to weep), also doing seal retainer gasket, sump gasket, front seal, timing chain cover gasket and timing chain/tensioner/damper tomorrow. Timing chain/clutch components and gaskets are genuine Toyota. Front seal, rear seal and sump gasket are aftermarket. Alternator bearings are SKF, brushes are genuine Toyota. After that the car should be like new, or completely rooted. I'll possibly take some pictures tomorrow. Chur.
