rivalrx
Sorry for the posts but it's a pain in the ass to load all at once... I blasted the RX3 cross member engine plate and headlight buckets the other day. I couldn't be bothered zinc coating them so just etch primed and I will paint them later. I need to see BNT for some new headlights too as my USA ones won't do. I used an IDA throttle linkage bracket as a template to knock a few out at the same time. I need to trim them slightly to make them all square etc but I'm happy with my efforts. I'm keen to do as much as I can myself to get this car on the road.
rivalrx
So here are the nos rx4/5 13b housings I just couldn't say no to......yes....my second set. The underside is blasted and covered in brunox. Just a few repairs then underseal. And behold, my rx7 s5 NA 13b hi comp rotors after they have had the lighten balance, slot and side clearance treatment My new rims Simmons FR17 x7 on my mates rx2 s1 from the UK..
rivalrx
Rx2 brakes gone......hello FC RX7 brakes and hilux diff coming my way too. Bit of blast action.. And a quick photo mock up from a mate on his phone....you get the idea.
rivalrx
They see me rollin - they hatin... Tidied up the old 618 gas tank After Getting into my rust repair arch panels form a genuine rx2 coupe - spot weld eradication Now for the money shot.... I sent my Simmons FR17 x7 rears to Heads Racing and they re lipped them to 8.5" using 3.5" outlets. Let's just say that I am more than happy with the outcome Test fit...no diff of tyres I'm loving it New computer and loom for the injection And here is a sample of my buffing exploits You like that??? I have done the sill, front windscreen and rear windscreen chrome now. This should pop against the patina. I cleaned up and rust killed the s3 rx2 cross member. Sold my rx3 cross member set up for the original unit so I can have the motor set back a bit. I also took a punt on some Honda adjusties and it appears that the rears will slot in once I get new bushes. So that's about it for now. Ordering my last few seals and the engine is getting built the weekend of RE Union in Taupo mid Feb. To say that I'm pumped is an understatement.
rivalrx
Here is a before and after shot of the "banana" rx2 s3 cross member. These are desirable due to the fact they are for front mounted 12a engines. I'm running an old school 13b with a 12a front cover. After a wire wheel and rust etch. I will be painting it black along with the steering components soon. And a good mate gave me this K&N Carbon fibre intake to whack onto the quad throttle body intake we are working on. Think these are used on sprint cars.
rivalrx
Sorry it's been a while... The car needs both lower windscreen channels treated/fixed for compliance costs and then underseal. Standby for the repair cert sign off in a month hopefully. Underside bits recod and ready to roll The rear Chassis rails are straight and flat again I even got a silver pen from warehouse stationary and touched up dash chrome... Before After More blast time The rear plastics from the coupe parcel tray need some loving. Finally I have a tidy console too - this took some trading and hustling New MFR bearings and apex springs to suit 2mm steel seals coming my way now. The machine shop totally ruined my rotors by slotting the 3mm apex slots on an angle...series 5 paperweights......I had to buy more one didn't need slotting therefore I sold my carbons and their corner seals and springs. Machine shop lightened them for free and managed to ruin another rotor..........so they bought me a new one. Pretty pissed off.
Popular Post rivalrx
I have my hilux diff getting the rx2 brackets welded on at the moment and then I will have the axles re splined and cut. I'm having to re drill the hub 4x110 as well as the new s5 rx7 brakes and have the hub centre turned down on a lathe so I can fit and locate my Simmons. Bosch 044 fuel pump purchased the other day too. Arches done inner and outer - just needs to be tidied up and painted in the similar colour to the body. Plates are all skimmed and now I have to have the rotating assembly balanced AGAIN due to the new rotors.... Struts ready in a couple of weeks and I hope to have it rolling as soon as I get the shell back.
Popular Post rivalrx
What's up old schoolers. I almost biffed the 618/616 gearbox X member - glad I didn't as it actually can easily be made to fit s4/5 rx7 gear boxes. The RX2 gear box X member is a short son bitch and the RX2 mounts come very close if a s4/5 box is fitted. I blasted it up yesterday ready to mod and paint. It's good to use as it has mounts already there attached to the chassis rails (616 not RX2) Next - header fab time. My mate knocked me up these headers - soooo stoked. I will be ordering the Adrenalin R resonators x4 and a dumpy soon. Watch this space. My mate has a jig for making a hilux diff suit RX2 - flanges have been laser cut and are now on the diff. Next step is to cut diff and mock up with wheels axles and brakes under my car to make sure it fits. It's going to be close. Next - making my RX2 struts fit the random Honda Odyssey fully adjustable units. My mate lathed them apart and interference fit them together = press fit. Tidy job and I owe him some bourbon!!! Top fella This is the original rx2 strut next to the new adjusties Hilux 6 stud axles are now turned down to fit the FC rx7 brake discs. Not the old holes haven't been filled....I was told that heating the hubs is not a great idea. There is loads of meat for re drilling 4x110 and this will get done when I get the axles cur and resplined. I want to have an extension added to the centre of the hub so that the rim can locate...how? Do I need one? And finally....I bought two of these off eBay as they are old from the 80s unused and cheap
Popular Post rivalrx
Repair cert is issued. No onto the cert. And Struts have new Toyshop camber plates - almost ready to button up. Push thru studs have been ordered for all 4 corners. I hope to pick up the car in a week.
Popular Post rivalrx
Thanks to some super helpful mates, my front struts have been mocked up on another RX2 coupe using some Lenso 17’s so that we can see how the car will sit. These pics are with the body of the shock would down (can go lower…). There is a load more adjustment up so these should do nicely. The press in wheel studs are en route from the USA and once they arrive, it should be game on to have the diff mocked up for completion. At the moment the flanges are tacked on so we need all rear suspension installed to see if the rims will squeeze under the rear arches. Engine internals have been balanced and I have sold my Exedy 5 puk s4/5 RX7 clutch to go with a Quartermaster twin plate unit from the Green Brothers. The wiring of the car is booked in for late November and exhaust before then….I need it all plumbed up and ready to fire by then for testing. There will be a base tune loaded on the Link G4RX to get me going however I will need a dyno tune after all is said and done. My quad manifold is getting tigged by a mate shortly – will wait for the engine to be mounted and then we can go from there. Coils, radiator, drive shaft and loop, windscreens in, dash in and sound deadening to come…..Must be ready for Reunion 2017.
rivalrx
So the rust repair panels have been paint matched (as close as possible without too much fluffing about) to the car. The repair certifier needs to look over the final product this week and then it’s 100% officially signed off on the system. Now onto the cert. I’m picking it up this weekend and hope to have the hilux diff mocked up under it whilst it’s on the hoist. Once we know that fits bang on, the flanges can finally be welded on and O can send the axles away for the chop chop and re drill. The weekend of the 15/16 of October we are building the engine up in Taupo – bring that on.

rivalrx
The car is home for the first time – lucky it was kind of raining for the trip….albeit 15min. Before a bit of a clean After a scrub I couldn’t help myself We attacked the engine bay last night over a couple beers – just taking off the random tabs and brackets from its piston days My adjustable upper trailing arms are done – just need to paint and add the nolathane bushes Tonight we will try and get the remaining tabs off and have any welds ground flush before treating the metal and eventually painting the bay in its original sunrise red RH paint. We will be changing the dash brackets over so that we can mount the dash and glove box also removing the remnants of the LDH wipers and adding mounts for the RHD unit to be added. We will have to fk off the random air intake that can be seen on the driver’s side under the wiper cowl. Fuel lines over the next week and hopefully we can use the breather tank as a surge tank…GAME ON
rivalrx
The engine bay is now reasonably free of random tabs and piston bracketry. The vent on the inner drivers side under the wiper cowl has been removed, as this is on the opposite side for RHD cars. The rear seat sound deadening has been picked off as I wanted to be 100% that there was no rust scale underneath – there wasn’t. I will sound deaden the car before the interior goes back in. The RHD wiper motor kind of in place Rear struts wound down vs the original one. I need new bumpstops now as the OG ones are toast. After a cheeky buff…
rivalrx
Floor is basically done – not doing the tunnel at this stage as the metal under was MINT. 2 layers of rust kill paint and then I will add the deadening after I fit driveshaft loop etc 6 x Toyo Proxes 215 50 13 in the stash for my hotwires that are on their way Shed life I got another handbrake console that I gave a tidy up…before: After: Full adjustable Koni’s coming my way as is a new s2 rx7 disc rear end with FXGT callipers. Hope to paint the engine bay this week some time too
rivalrx
As part of the compliance/certing process, the windshield wipers needed to be mounted to the opposite side. This involved removing an air vent on the drivers side and riv nutting mounts on the same side to attach the wiper motor – seen in this pic. The far right inner wall of the cavity needed to be hole sawed so that the wipers motors arms can extend like they would on the original side. I’ve painted a couple of layers of rust kill black paint in there which really tidied it all up. The LHD firewall old steering column opening was welded up as were the heater pipe holes and the drip channel that ran down the centre of the firewall was removed for gearbox slave clearance. I think it looks a lot tidier now. There is a bit of a working bee on this Sunday so we can lay some filler primer in the engine bad – beer will be flowing

rivalrx
Sooooo these were purchased in the weekend….original 13x7 Hotwires that have just had a professional refurb at Arrow Wheels. The caps are coming shortly too. Oh, and I got 2 more Toyo 215 50 13s too…. The engine bay is all but ready to prime this week and the dash is basically buttoned up also.
