Popular Post Spencer
OK been lots going on but as usual when you get busy updates fall off.\ Been real keen to get the steering sorted but progress was slow, trawled through the moog universal tie rod listings ( Inner here and outer here) to find something that would work off the shelf. As the rack is being shortened I could go to almost any thread on the inner tie rod as long as it was long enough and had a shaft thread to match the commodore tie rod end. Turns out commodore tieords are a retarded M14x2 so they suck balls, everything M14 is usually 1.5. I still haven't nailed this but I think a Volvo inner tie-rod will work and I have one coming in. Long story short, the rack is in bits and getting cut down to suit a M14x1.5 tinner tie rod thread, this gives me plenty of options and maybe one day I'll find something that works without turning down a existing tierod or using adapters. Also changed to HG steering arms, I really wanted to run the HQ arms because they will give the best lock to lock and feel but the give me shitty angles to dial out bump steer. HQ are the short straight ones. Below shots are comparisons with the HQ arm and the HG, note the top shot with the HQ arm puts it way higher than the wishbone. With unequal length wishbones you kind of need to be on the lower wishbone plane to mostly eliminate bump steer. HG arms, buts pivot of the inner tie rod inline with the lower wishy. Oh got these at a sweet old Holden wrecker in Ipswich for $15 Check out how sweet this cast inlet came out from the citric acid bath! was the coolant passages were corroded and full of crap, came out as good as new. Mostly stripped the car down now, just paint stripper and a scraper. Keeps the noise to a minimum in the city Oh and all my patch panels arrived! there is this same lot for the other side. Lower rear quarter panel, rocker, inner rocker and a piece for around the rear wheel arch. They were dirt cheap. So I chopped the shit out of one side Started to dummy up the lower quarter patch as I was very wary if it would actually fit, its not the best but it will work out. I wont be sticking this together just yet as I will blast and grind out the inner sections and give them a coat of epoxy, same goes for the inside of the patch panels. And that about where I'm up to, got a million parts going through the acid bath and waiting to be painted. Will try and chuck paint on a bunch of them in the weeked.
