tortron
You can do it in situ by connecing the new chain to the old one and turning it over
xsinclairx
I'm a bit worried about the strength of the chain at the connection tho... would be 100x easier than pulling the cases apart!
Goat
Hmm, That doesn't look right, i don't think that chain could stretch 25mm over 21 links.... Thats like 1mm of play per link..... Are you sure thats the right measurement?
AllTorque
I think you should measure inside the rollers with the internal side of the calipers. Like so
xsinclairx
Yea pic was just for reference. That is a crazy amount or stretch tho. I'll have another look tomorrow, it's kinda hard to measure it properly without removing...
Snorkpipe
Spec seems wrong, the pins look fairly central in their rollers
xsinclairx
Snorkpipe is right. I flicked through the book again and found another page with the spec. Seems weird like why would they have two different specs in the book I'll go with this one tho!
xsinclairx
Spent the day messing around with my 125. Finally got it to throw a spark with new coil, points, condensder and spark plug. Chuck some fuel through and nothing. Check carb and it's dry, strip rebuild and replace and it leaks fuel from every where it possibly can! Despite this I did get it almost turning over and it chuffed a bit of smoke but I'm still annoyed. Might look at getting a new carb.

xsinclairx
Bits went off to powder coater today. $380 to get zinc and gloss black. Abrasive concepts done a good job blasting.
xsinclairx
I got parts back yesterday. Overall happy how they turned out. Powder covers a lot so very minimal prep is required to make it look ok. Everything was coated in zinc to prevent rust first. Not sure if I'd get other frames coated in the future. I've also ordered heaps of parts from partsfish.
xsinclairx
I've started reassembly on the bits I can like centre stand. I'll have to strip the rear swing arm and get it powder coated to match frame as it looks shit in comparison. Done a terrible masking job and sprayed the discolored engine today. Definitely going to paint the rest of the engine silver as oppose to polishing some parts. Desperate to get shit done before summer is over.

a.craw4d
Looks good. Any reason you wouldn't get a frame powder coated again? Interested to know.

I feel like a good prime and paint would be as good. Worried about how it's going to look if/when the powder chips. And you can't do any "touch ups" if something does happen.
xsinclairx
Got the engine In the frame today. Started on the air box too but didn't get a pic of that. I didn't paint the cylinder head. Looks like oil all over it but it's not. I.Will paint the side cover too I think. Not a fan of the raw alloy look. I also fitted some smaller alloy foot pegs but due to them not actually being for my bike they don't fold well... And the bracket for the frame has been powder coated so I can't hit it with the grinder for a better fit. I'll post a pic of them tomorrow. Still waiting for a few bits and pieces to turn up. Waiting is more painful than pulling teeth.
xsinclairx
Fitted the foot pegs properly. Should look ok on the bike. Not sure what to do about the fork stanchions. They've got a bit of surface rust forming. I'm looking at getting some Hagon shocks for the rear. Don't want to put the original back on.
Snorkpipe
New fork legs are often a good option if you can stretch to them. No rust, and straight. Race tech sell them amongst others
xsinclairx
Yeah I might have to. I was thinking of going usd forks but that's too much effort for me I don't want to clean rust off this thing for the rest of it's days. @Snorkpipe is there anywhere in NZ that has/gets them in that you know of?
