Recommended Posts

So I now have 1.99997563 fa50s

One pink

One orange

Neither run at this point

Plan is to remedy this and have at least one going

These are gateway bikes

Then I plan to get a true 50 or 90 of qcr awesomeness

Plans for one fafiddy is to paint Nz army clay with mat black highlights, wheels etc

Keep it pretty minimalist but include a rifle rack for when Dane visits chch

But 60kmh would be awesome

Cheers i500gt for the bikes

Cheers OBD for the offer of a working bee

Feel free to offer advice etc

I plumbed up the fuel lines made a new one from the fuel tap to the carb

Managed to drain tank contents thru the nipple on the bottom of the carb overnight

That's ok I caught it in a bowl and I know fuel lines arentblocked

I guess it's clean carb time

I thought I might get lucky and get her to fire up straight away

Question

Fuel tap has 3 positions, run, prime and reserve

Any idea where the off position is?

no off, float needle takes care of that, leave it on run, when you run out of fuel, switch to reserve, when you accidently run reserve dry, walk 10km to the fuel station and flick it to prime to fill the float bowl quickly.

i cant remember if these have vacuum petcocks to block the fuel when engine isnt running, but if it drained overnight it sounds like a no.

Well I stripped down spare carb, cleaned the dirt and stones out of it

One of the spare fuel taps seemed to seal off when I blower unto different pipes with different tap settings

Also it's hoses were supple

I might try the fuel tap tonight see how it goes

They apparently have a diaphragm in them that leaks

I realise this Josh, but when on Run it just drains thru the carb.

Reading on the interwebs suggests a tired diaphragm that will cause this to happen as it shouldnt suck fuel in on run/ reserve unless the motor is running.

I will try a 'new' tap tomorrow night

Then see how that goes

Swapped the fuel tap

A generous squirt of start ya bastard...

Omfg

It goes

Filled the garage with noise and 2 smoke

Only one throttle setting (wide open)

No airfilter no muffler but awesome

Will take a video tomorrow

just be carefull running on airbox, if it doenst get the right air fuel ratio, these tend to soft seize at the drop of a hat, did mine about 3 times before we upped the jetting correctly. pretty horrible/hillarious when your humming along at 50kmh and then the whole thing locks up and you gotta wait 10mins for it to cool down and unseize.

Fix sticky throttle

Acquire brakes

Paint a less masculine colour

Plates

60cc conversion?

Figure a way to get the rear wheel spinning faster

Take over the world one road at a time

I've seen your escort I think around Cavendish rd

Hit up my parts bike and found a set of new brake shoes in the front

They got shoved into the rear as the axle bolt on the pink bike front wheel wouldn't come out

It stops fairly well now

I removed indicators

It still cuts out or bogs down at time but I think it is a fuel line issue

Next step is saddle bag and plates
