OldNathan
Started pulling the intake and a few other bit off last night. Starting to look a bit better now. Nice size engine once the layers are pulled back. Also in the process of mateing a 1JZ belhousing as its a very close fit. If it does Ill get a JZ to W55 bellhousing and run a W55. Not ideal gearbox but it will do. I have 2 in the shed and will be easier to fit in the tunnel. Next step is to pull the M series out of the sedan and sit her in place. If it fits with the stock intake ill look at leaving it stock, but if not ill have to look into building the custom intake. Looking forward to it.
OldNathan
Had a bit of a progress night last night. Took the engine off the engine stand and sat the JZ and UZ bellhousings up to the engine. 1UZ is very close in shape and a few holes line up. This could be adapted in my opinion with a few slotted holes and redrilled holes. also cutting out the starter part if this was an issue. JZ bell housing has less holes that line up but it's closer again to the shape. So woth the same mods I can see this working as well. High chance this is the direction I will go still.
Popular Post OldNathan
This deserves its own update The engine was off the stand for a reason. In she went... Exhausts need a tweek to clear steering box and rail but have heaps of room to move them in towards the block. Sump fits perfect and the engine mounts are pretty much on top of the subframe mounts. Still heaps of room for radiator. Was meant to be.
Popular Post OldNathan
So a bit has happened just haven't had time to update. Noticing the V12 engine mount pattern is the same as the 1UZ, so I ordered a set of 1UZ to M series engine mounts from xcessive racing in the states. I measured the differece in V angle between the mounts bolted onto the engine and the subframe (seeing the v12 is a different degree to the 1uz). The differece was 18 degrees, so I got an engineer to bend the mounts out another 18 degrees. Now they are the same as the subframe. I now need a 30mm engine mount I can adapt and that side is sorted. Managed to score a 1UZ Celica with an R154 so figured I would take the R154 out and sell the rest. So now I had a R154 and the 1UZ clutch and flywheel. These bolted straight onto the V12. I figured I might as well save the hassel and splashed out on a R154 to 1GZ bellhousing. So now everything is bolt on. Made some wooden engine mounts as a dummy and sat the engine back in. Tonights mission is dummy everything up and fit the engine box in. According to my tape measure, the factory gearbox mount will bolt to my R154 and the engine will sit in the middle of the engine bay. I would have preferred it to sit back a bit further ,but 25mm isnt going to kill handling or asthetics. Still leaves me plenty for radiator. Have also cleaned up and painted the rocker covers in my traditional wrinkle black. Will try and keep up with updates as is moving pretty fast now.
Popular Post OldNathan
Did a bit of tunnel massage today. Usually it's the bellhousing but this R154 is pretty big in the guts. So up she went and bolted onto the factory gearbox mount. I then lifted the engine to clear the sump from the cross member by about 5 mm. This meant I needed a mount to go from the new engine mounts to the subframe that was 30mm. Made a few calls and looked at a few books and ordered from the mount shop a Land Rover engine mount. It's 65mm round with a stud on each side and is 36mm so I'm happy with that. I will now make a plate that makes the subframe mount nice and flat and will drill a hole right where I need it. Most likely slot it vertically as the engine mount is slotted horizontally. That will give me all the adjustment I need. Once that's done the auto sparky is coming around to start the new wiring. Might also have a play with the exhaust headers soon while I'm putting the engine in and out.
OldNathan
Got the engine in its final place but had a headers issue hitting the steering box. So sectioned the 3 pieces out to clear it. Few welds to go and it will be finished. Its all bolted on and in place now
Popular Post OldNathan
On her way to get some engine wiring done. Starting from scratch with new wiring and plugs. The start of the Link Fury wiring. Getting to the nitty gritty now.

Popular Post OldNathan
Bit of an update. Sent the R154 away to get a freshen up and new hydraulic release bearing. She turned up today so ready to bolt back onto the engine and bolt on place. Next step is to get driveshaft measurements and get that under way. Also while waiting on the box I bought 2 driveshaft hoops, an Altezza F series LSD and a nice new S15 radiator. Once the engine is back in I'll re check the intake manifold height and hope the bonnet still shuts. If it doesn't I'll have to either make a new intake or go ITBs. Also got one of the original pulleys machined down and ran a new belt to eliminate what I don't need. I have kept the air con and powersteering this time.
Popular Post OldNathan
Release bearing and lines fitted Gearbox on Flexies and flanges on All going to plan exhaust manifolds will be heat wrapped tomorrow and fitted for the last time. Then engine and box go in. Let's see if the driveshaft fits and the hydraulic release bearing works. Getting closer.

OldNathan
Bought some of these trumpets. Don't worry they aren't staying this colour. Hoping to pic up my throttle body flanges and the engine side tomorrow. Arrange my friend to tig them together with short radius bends. Then start on the linkages.
