Looking good man! Lip above on red one looks like a copy of the e30 m3 front lip at a guess. That's a mtech 2? rear kit? You gonna run the same on front?

Sweet though. F20c would rule, but prolly a lil expensive?

would be nice mate but well out of my price range.

Sweet build bro, I love the old e30s!

Dunno if its any help, but this is just from my personal experience building a race car...

Decide what you want to use the car for, and at what level?

Are you planning to use it mainly for track racing, drifting, or hill climbs, and is it going to be just club events, or a particular series you want to compete in?

Because this may affect what engine you can use. Originally I was going to use a 13b turbo in my ke70, and it would have been fucking quick, but it would have put me in the open class for most events which would mean competing against guys with more expensive/faster cars and much bigger budgets. Racing is fun regardless, but I didnt want to be down the back of a feild of evo's and subaru's, I wanted to be in the midst of the fun.

Which is a big part of the reason I decided to to with the Beams 3s, as it puts me in the 1600-2000cc class, which down here (and I imagine everywhere) gives you a big field of similar performance cars to race against. It also keeps the price down, you can pick up an engine, 6 spd box, loom etc for $1800-$2000 pretty easy.

Once you know what you want to use it for, its also a good idea to check out the motorsport regulations, and make sure that your engine choice/any modifications you make to the car, are allowed in that class..

Good luck, cant wait to see it on the track!

your 100% corect mate i need to decide on what i want.

this is why i origanaly wanted the beams to be in that class .

i just keep losing sight of it and all i want to do is race ,have fun track days and do hill climbs.

i just lose track when thinking about motors .you know i look at the beams and all i keep thinking is for the same money i could get somthing that i could make more power with. :-)

i just need to focus on what i want to do and that is the same class your looking at. and hill climbs.

i dont have the money to throw it it like others to be in the open class so thats why i looked into the 1600-2000 class.

cheers

dan

looks like its going to be a good project mate. I reckon the beams would be ideal for it, as said cheap and reliable. As said open class needs an open budget. The smaller engine classes in the clubmans down here look like they have the most fun, closest racing, and its not costing a fortune. Ill be going 20v 4age in another escort for this reason.

someone wanted to take it off my hands for a good price and the money has gone to house deposit funds.

the rear coilovers, did you strengthen the lower shock mount at all? just doing the same with ours, was thinking about bracing back to the arm somehow,

no not the lower mount where it bolts to the suspention arms.

just the top of the shock tower.as they will split after a while.so i made mounts for the shocks as they are eye to eye and then a plate to go on top (inside the boot)

so they should be sweet.

also has a rear strut brace weled in so i may tie the top of the towers to that aswell

interesting, do other people run with the same setup without issues? I thought it looked a bit weak to be taking the spring loading. but if its a common thing to do i'l leave it! coilovers i have must be bigger diameter than yours. had to chop a bit out of the tower to make them fit. will strengthen them ,when welding some steel back in.

yes mate the only faulers i have ever read or heared about was the top of the tower splitting.

im useing a gaz coilover i had for my escort.is nice and thin and fits prefectly.

unsure at this point what lb spring to run but have started with 175lb and the springs them self are only $30 +postage from rally design in the u.k.

choice, cheers. those are some cheap springs! yeh 175lb seems a bit soft. would have thought you'd want at least double that.

from what i can find the ones im using are 6kg (about 340lb) same rate as in the back or my trueno. will start a thread once i get a camera, so you can laugh at it. its had a hard life

lol my parts car has had a hard life to i think it was being used for about a year without any springs in it and the whole underside is bash to fuck.

and the rear panel is falling off it. (one of the reasons for buying another shell)

may get some 300lb springs and go from there the 175 was what i got for the back of my van and with the adjustable dampner they could be nie and hard.

Just on the E30 coilover fitment, I've found XYZ do quite a cool inverted shock setup for them. It means they fit with plenty of clearance in the rear turrets.

I've not seen any cases where people reinforce the lower shock mount for coilover installation. A bit dubious exceeding design capacity that much, but they seem to manage alright.
