corey_jorg
decided to build this trailer as wasnt impressed with paying tow truck fees to move around my hatch and other cars, and didnt have enough room for a tandom car trailer. enjoy And this is it now, had to work today and was to good'er weather to waste afterwards so decided to paint it. be4ver
thats cool man, been thinking of making something similar. how do you attach the car to it tho? and get it on there
corey_jorg
2 ramps connect to the chainlinks which have been welded to the rear. and have 2 modified strops that go over the wheels. didnt picture with as paint is still tacky. be4ver
ah i see, what sorta price did all the trailer bits rip ya? like the guards, hubs and hitch
danger
Reckon that drawbars strong enough?
corey_jorg
drawbar is 100x50x3 so fairly strong. no weight at all on it as all weight is on the 2 trailer wheels. so only stress from pulling and turning. owes me around 1600 all up. with abit to a mate for welding, finding the pieces etc. about 1200 in materials including wheels "price" all tho i already owned them. danger
Personally I'd wanna have some 25x25 or similar at the least going from where the hubs attach to the drawbar. Bit of force on that thing if you had to brake hard while cornering. Good idea though

corey_jorg
how does it turn with a car on it? what do you mean ?
cletus
i thought about doing something similar, but figured the wheels on the dolly would have to "steer" with the car on, otherwise the only way to get round a corner is for the tyres to drag/skid
bubblegoose
they do skid a little but not that bad, skinny hard tyres help with that
dirty_leppa
looks good man, might be the answer to my same problem. do you have to register it ?
cubastreet
nice job. just curious - what's the advantage of this over an a-frame?
CaMpylobacter
interesting. ALways wondered how these handle cornering. you should take a vid of a super low speed turn with a large angle or something. I've seen them with a turntable type deal but figured those would be a prick in that you'd proabably smash the guards into the side of the car if you weren't careful! have you got ramps for it or do you just jack the car up and back the dolly under it? looks liek a pretty sweet little rig! Steelies
yeah cool, nifty! nice job. just curious - what's the advantage of this over an a-frame? slight off topic sorry, but keen for comparison with an a-frame, with regards to the tire dragging thing? and possibly thoughts on loading the cars front suspension up with the force of tight cornering when it's stropped down
shizzl
they tow the same as a 6x4 or similar trailer.. have used one before.. bloody handy. no good towing anything with a locked diff though, haha i would also put some bracing from the dolly frame to the drawbar to strengthen it up.....just in case
flyingbrick
Very cool! Sideways load on that drawbar would be HUGE while turning though!!!!!!!
CaMpylobacter
I'd say advantages over an a frame would be that you don't need specific mountings to put the a frame on. plus time factor fitting them etc. a fram would perhaps tow a little better but I guess it's a calculated compromise? JoKer
a frame also wont work if either end of you car is immobile ;P which is generally why they need towing also gunna say yep : this should require a trailer wof/rego, but you might get away with it if your tow'ee is rego'd
