Popular Post Roman Posted April 25, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted April 25, 2020 I've been doing some work on making a crude engine simulator, so if I'm using something else that I want to test that has Canbus I can just hook them up to each other and expect similarish results that my engine would give. So it needs an airflow model, so far using these factors to determine how much airflow the engine could potentially be consuming RPM How much air per cyl at 100% VE (And from this and RPM, mass air flow) How max VE tapers each side of max torque RPM based friction losses A potential horsepower number based on Mass Air Flow Then I've modelled a throttle body too, which has a flow rate based on angle. So if the angle allows you to flow more air than what the engine is trying to consume, it stays at 101kpa and the engine can reach its full throttle VE value. But if the throttle is closed further than this, then it shows the number as dictated by throttle angle but also generates a map sensor value. Which then generates a pumping losses number based on MAP and RPM.  So to add more features I basically add more things which potentially take away from max power if they are non optimal. So I still need to make an AFR model, so that you'll make less power as you go further away from peak power AFR. Then make an ignition model which has an ideal ignition number (in milliseconds to 15 ATDC so it generates a fairly sane number across the rpm range) But then has variables to account for different amount of ignition needed when you run richer or leaner, or less engine load. Then from there, I'll make a road load simulator where the car is requiring a varying load as it travels along ups and downs. So the simulation of cruise control is a bit more accurate as in real life the test conditions go out of bounds a lot if the road gradient changes too much across the course of a single test. So obviously this wont be a 100% accurate simulation of my engine or any other engine. But it will react to changes in hopefully a similar way a real engine does, and be capable of being tuned like a real engine does. The eventual idea is that I'll be able to test and troubleshoot my cruise control ignition trim system using this instead of needing to drive the car every time I need to test something. So this virtual motor will have an ideal ignition table which I currently dont even know what it is. But it will be my other things job to figure that out. This will be able to whizz through 1000s of iterations much faster than how it can process in real time when you're waiting for fuel samples to generate and conditions to stabilize. So hopefully I'll be able to get a fairly decent starting point back in the car without too much in the way of bugs or troubleshooting.  12 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I know tbi or single point injection is shit but its less shit than a carb. Will be keeping a eye out for a EA falcoon TBI module. Any suggestions on alternative tbi units? kyteler Posted May 17, 2020 Share Posted May 17, 2020 The problem with that is the 202 is non crossflow so the intake and exhaust share clamping forces, if you were to make a spacer plate it would have to be for all of the ports so likely need to be steel but then would potentially increase the probability of leaking due to increased bolt length requirements. It would also be a massive ballache to install.   1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

At the end of the day it's a crappy holden 6 and the heads/intake manifolds are garbage for flow so I'm unlikely to benefit from sequencial injection or wasted spark and I'd like to keep it as stock as possible in appearance because barry  I do have access to a xp laptop with serial port so that'll work well enough for what I need Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We want to know fuel used over x distance so can calculate fuelling levels prior to stage so its not over full and sloshing around and stinking We are wondering if there is any option of a fuel used over x distance or even a average fuel usage over a trip time function that the link can do? I'm going to do some logging/tuning on my boat and need to hook up a wideband. Jetties have advised the only way to really do this in marine manifolds is to drill/tap right next to a single exhaust port where it's not water jacketed. Realistically a widebands only going to be there during the period where I need to log/tune, I'll have it running open map 99% of the time. What problems am I going to run into? Will the AFR be bias lean/rich, how will heatsoak affect numbers? I'm sure the sensor wouldn't last too many hours to be left in that position anywho.
