Otherwise keep the rest of car as is for max surprise values.

Are allegros considered even more horrible than maxis? and what of the humble princesses? Both great candidates for mega power and awesome giggles for little outlay. Would never get nicked.

A Honda B series powered Allegro has long been a guilty dream of mine. I figure if they pop the Honda motors into Minis left right and center, surely an Allegro wouldn't be that hard?

They make subframe kits for Hondas into 1300's now I believe so wouldn't be all that hard to adapt something like that into an Allegro.

But Allegro... Do you really want to put yourself through that? LOL

its about 6" shorter than the 1800

... but the bean counters made them use the 1800's doors  , hence the looong wheelbase.  They also shoe-horned the silky smooth 2.2l 6-cylinder version of the OHC Maxi engine into the 1800 and Princess - now that would have made the Maxi fly... :thumbright:

The Maxi looks good lowered a tad, with some wheels that fill the arches better (imho).

Nothing wrong with a quick Allegro - the UK got the 1750 twin carb engine, and BL eventually sorted the ride and handling (although too late, as usual :x ).  A mate had one with a warmer cam for commuting from Chch to Lincoln Uni, back in the '80s.  Ate Escorts for breakfast :-D .

A KV6 from a Rover 75 would have made an interesting transplant in the Maxi - an Austin Rover parts bin special. 8)

yea plan is for everything other than the engine bay to appear as stock as possible.. still trying to work out the best way to hide a 2-1/2" S/S exhaust.. :P

Could you run a dual exhaust with smaller 1-3/4" pipes (same flow as single 2-1/2" pipe), then combine them at the rear into your muffler of choice?

By the way, what happened to your twin carb 1750 motor?  It's basically the same as the one in my Marina, but iirc the Maxi HL got factory twin-pipe exhaust extractors ...  :P
