KKtrips
Oh - I know the steez is where that shit is at and that steeze be bangin!! Just theorising as to why the pads disintegrated.
Rookie
A brake on a DH run would deal with heaps more heat, so I wouldn't worry about it. I've had pads shit the bed like that in the past.
kicker
The pads are super old and the bits where the friction material came off had rust behind it. I checked it after some of the downhill runs and it wasn't that hot, I guess for a single revolution there is a billion more disc to heat up compared to a conventional one. I'll do some more performance testing and report back with findings and or injuries
Goat
Also, keep in mind. Moonshine brakes are mainly for show. (and one hell of a show piece this setup is!) Pedals, frames and shoes provide 90% of our braking needs.
Steelies
possibly the softer disc material will pick up on the pads a lot more than usual discs? but anyway, steez. if we made our bikes good to use it'd be a boring cycle gang.
DodgySam
also that is technically a solid disc...so nothing to cool it down. Put some holes in the braking surface for cooling and the brakes wont get so hot.

kicker
Update cos i'm bored. Since last time I have a couple new bikes Another slam bike, 20" this time so it will fit in the car Picked this up at Nats 14, Raleigh Magnum Mach II, hooned one of these as a kid Decided to jazz it up a bit with a 3 piece crank, skyways, MX-1 stem, new chain and pedals, gumwall Panaracers and a few stickers Slowly getting the garage tidy The bike in the bottom right of the above pic is one I'm tidying up at the mo. I needed a regular bike I can put a seat on for my daughter to go for rides, have welded on some disc brake mounts, added mtb wheels and rear shifter, seat sits on the cross bar, shakedown runs successful, plenty of swooning from ladies young and old haha. Now to have it stripped and powdercoated. I sold my HMX-500 and scrapped a pile of other unneeded stuff too Good times
kicker
Frame and forks have been blasted and powdercoated and bike is back together and with seat for the little one It all came out quite nice although is just a standard bike, mk2 will be a bit different
