So I have a new gear box and a new diff setup that i'm getting ready to put in. The gear box i got lucky on close ratio one and I will take my chances and just put it in. I have a alloy bell housing linned up just have to swap my 3.5 diff head for it thoughts anyone as I real like the 3.5 but its slow off the mark. I have a 4.4 lock diff and that is so quick off the mark but I will get in trouble if I use that all the time.

001atm.jpg

The diff head has a buggered pinion bearing so I will do the lot there is nothing worse than a noisey diff lol

003arn.jpg

Any one got any ideas on turbo size as I have a B4 here that I'm wreaking now I'm going to take the primary turbo off for the sport set up

So it's been a while busy time's. Was getting ready for track day wiring caught fire for the electric fan so have rewired it put it back in and gave it a trim so it would fit

016xp.jpg

got the breather kind of sorted. Tucked away behind the grill. Picked up a set of EVO 4 seast very nice was only going to use them for a race day seat but they are so nice to sit in so they might end up staying in.

Track day yesterday at Hampton Downs what a fun day M_C was there and my little engine fared not bad against a big donk 1:40 for the first lap around which was not bad for a little car gave a few quite a surprise how it went even me as well.

dsc03754large.jpg

By end of day I was getting faster slowly and as for apex well it not where you would think on this corner lol

dsc03822medium.jpg

So there is a list of things needed a LSD third gear wheel spins at 90 km was interesting and showed the semi slicks are getting long in the tooth or I just don't weigh enough. And the front sway bar I need to put the 24 mm back in so I could have more corner speed. And the 3.9 diff head I only got into 4th gear on the main straight. It was a great day am already keen to go again.

There was only one little problem with the car from the whole day the rear main rear appears to have started leaking. Might be time to get on with building a new bottom end ARP bolts for the head and a better head gasket.

008soi.jpg

over night leaking

Buy end of day I was running close 1:35 min mark which is not bad for a 35 year old car and kept up well with the guys a V6 and a 2.0 pinto even passed them a few times lol

So here is some video on how the little 1.6 xflow goes thanks to Elliot and his Go Pro . I had never been on a track before so was only learning next track day is already booked roll on 1st of December.

Only a 3.9 diff head to put in and a bigger sway bar to fit and we will see if I can go a little faster.

The next track day is booked in for the 1st of Dec. So the 3.9 is being rebuilt at the moment by Steelie Gears. New bearings all round But the price of the Pinion gasket stopped me in my tracks $75 plus gst bugger go some help from a mate on this one. All the cost for the rebuild there wont be any change out of $500 it will be worth it and last for ages the last one lasted 35 years.

Have to get started on the bottom end rebuild want some thing very strong with loads of get up and go any ideas welcome??? I have a untouched block to work with.Cant make my mind up on this just want something fast lol.

Put my wheels up for sale on trade me as I have my eye on some brand new mag wheels that look good on the car

So I got the new 3.9 diff head in over the weekend. Steelie gears done a great job. Should make a difference on the track in the weekend . It feels like it's pulling harder over 100km which was what I wanted and no noise which was another reason for putting a new diff in.

001fhv.jpg

002hqr.jpg

lost my head lights last week took quite a lot of mucking around to find the problem got there in the end.Time to take all the excess weight out again track day this Saturday. I want to try and keep up with M_C's V6 lol

Track day went well had to much oil in the engine so to drain some off and still have the oil leaks got a new gear box tail shaft seal but a few beers to many on the Friday night before and it's still on the work bench with stuff waiting to go on the car.

001yrg.jpg

sold my wheels so rocking the skinny's now they don't look to bad going to get some new wheels later.

001ozx.jpg

check out the camber on the front wheel new strut mounts needed and adjustable camber with having to put a cert plate on her.

img9990large.jpg

So now I need a LSD as i was wheel spinning on the inside wheel on more than half the corners and some better semi slicks as mine are just to worn.

the rebuilt 3.9 diff was magic for Hampton Downs. I was 4 sec faster per lap than before and M_C V6 only made 200 meters over 4 laps but he did take the time to go on the scenic route which was interesting right in front of me on turn one.Check out the escort oldschool take over.

So was already heading out to the BBQ for a drive getting along on the motorway when I heard something bounce off the under neath of the car and I seen something flying out the back pulled off the motor way to have a look in a nice south Auckland area only to find my alternator hanging there not really where it should be so limped it home for repairs

003yty.jpg

So while I was swearing trying to find bolts to fit and not to long. I found this as well who knows the lock tabs where still in place.

004ocy.jpg

I have picked up a new engine should be interesting. As I only run a standard bottom end at the moment expect for the cam.

I have a xmas present picked myself up a new engine still with the xflow as I don't want to cert my car. It's meant to have 1300 pistons 60 thou over bore balanced lightened fly wheel double value springs ported head 42mm inlet and 35mm exhaust values and a bcf3 cam.

001esb.jpg

I have spent the last week cleaning it up and painting it ready to go in.

006tz.jpg

I got into the job today and took the engine out so I should have the new one in soon ish I'm keen to see what the big values work like with the bike carbs

007li.jpg

the list grows every time I touch the car I hope it goes well as my old engine only ran a standard bottom end. I think my current head has been ported better but I don't have the big values and double springs in my current one. The wait is going to piss me off to see what it goes like.

Its alive got it running yesterday and there is a difference from the old engine the new one doesn't leak oil and it revs past 7000 rpm. Which was a shock. Roll on the 30th Jan next track day then I can see what the real difference is. But still the vibration hasn't gone away there can only be two things now a bent rear axle or the gear box ??? Every thing else is brand new or been replaced.

002al.jpg

Need to get a new radiator now it has a small crack around the top hose bugger. Not sure which way to go? Get an alloy one or stay with factory as my fan is only 4mm away from the front pulley.

Radiator is on hold at the moment just used some stop leak for now and hope it holds out so far so good.Going to try and refub my track rims and see what they look like instead of spending money on new rims right now. Used some paint stripper on them but they are not polished under all the paint so I'm going to have to get busy with the sand paper.

002neg.jpg

Got around to getting the door cards mocked up need to sew a piece of black cloth to the bottom of the carpet piece to get it to wrap around nicely then they will be getting close.

001nlq.jpg

Did a little painting and tidying today got the factory fuel cap and a good tidy for the weekend .

003ngs.jpg

Hoping to get all done before lunch on Friday to get a few more things done before Kumeu.

Still waiting for track day it got closed last Wednesday so I have to wait to Waitangi Day but have a whole day now I hope to weather holds out. Started thinking what to do with those old alloys so I gave them a paint job which turned out way better than I thought it would.

096z.jpg

There was a lot of pain in doing just one wheel.

097jo.jpg

Track day 4 was a test of the new motor was getting around ok for the first few laps then it started getting warmer than normal and I was running out of gas half way up the main straight

001rlw.jpg

and I finally had all the wheels on turned out with the big values I needed to re jet the carbs for the next day as this was the result and a new set of plugs where needed.

002nyo.jpg

So early start got it all ready for the morning and away I went again things started ok times where getting better no lack of fuel but it was only a clam before the storm started to get warmer and warmer to the point that I could only go out for 4 laps a round and then water cooling all day long lol

010zsx.jpg

052dp.jpg

007jwu.jpg

022esq.jpg

then it got ugly and this happened

075ez.jpg

So the tractor noises started but it was still going and it wasn't going to kill it, so go hard or go home. Then this happened which ended the day with my fastest lap of the day of 1:32.7 min

058ru.jpg

So I went and got a new hose and started it back up only for the water pump to be screaming as well bugger so day was over and the repair list is long and for the first time back from the track I had to get a tow bugger.

Been slowly getting the required parts to get it back and running and made a start tonight new water pump fitted. wheels ready for new semi slicks to go on tomorrow. New radiator is getting the top hose mount moved and brackets welded on. Header's are getting fixed got some nice new copper gaskets have been made for the head so no more blowing the gasket's also got one made for where they bolt to the exhaust. Picked up a oil pressure gauge as well .

099qd.jpg

There are some more parts on there way from Burton as well. New engine showed up loads of weak parts. Might put the 4.4 lock diff in for a while.

Got a nice birthday present getting them fitted tomorrow .Quick shift was a another present as well .

103ln.jpg

Only have 2 weeks to get it all back together for another run on the track and see if the repairs hold up.

Over the last week I have been getting it back together got the front shocks shortened. Painted up all the brakes and shocks

003bet.jpg

009wuls.jpg

Finally picked up some new wheels and I'm liking the ride height now I have only got two so far as I was worried about the 7.5 inch wide but they are all good on the front. The rear is a different problem I needed to roll the inner guard but ran out of time tonight to try them on the rear after the rolling. First time it's been back on wheels and going in a month.

010ob.jpg

002mib.jpg

Then under the bonnet big thanks to BMAC for welding my headers and radiator . I was able to move my breather can with the new radiator as it's smaller but new is better by far. I still have a small heating issue as I need to get a new fan that blows my old one goes the wrong way and the blades cant be turned around.Got a new breather cap from Burton to stop oil coming out the cap. I need of some nice hoses.

008qp.jpg

Decided to paint the headers. I have read many different opinions on here on results so I gave them a real good scrub down and painted away I will wait and see if it falls off.

007iyf.jpg

Want new ones but the quote from 105 speed was a little out of control so I have found a guy that is going to make me a set. My car needs to go on a rolling road dyno as the O2 sensor is saying lean which is a problem. The new engine is showing a lot of things. The carb set up doesn't suit the big values like it worked on the old engine. The new manifold is quite away along as well .
